The Green version has nothing substantial besides the old sprites. The US Red/Blue is a weird mix of the Red/Green Pokemon locations and exclusivity, and Japanese Blue's art and bug fixes.
If anything Japanese Blue is the weird one. It has some trades for Kanghaskhan and Taruos.

I guess for me, it's just more curiosity since I had learned about the green version through magazines when I was a kid and was disappointed when I had no way of ever playing it. I'm sure by now, somebody's done a fanmade English version that I could emulate but I think to finally get an official version of it would be neat. Especially if they left all the weird sprites and bugs in.

As someone who has all 3 original 3DS iterations, the 2DS is by far the most comfortable. The XL and 3DS dig into your palms, they're uncomfortable as fuck for long play. Not to mention you can get 2DSs for dirt cheap. It's not as bad as people make it out to be.

The fact that XLs can't use faceplates so nintendo could jew out limited edition special devices means you have to get a small n3DS to use faceplates, and not everyone wants the small screen.
