Of course, but considering the game uses the same theme as STALKER and thus it's sort of a spiritual successor, it's only natural it gets compared to STALKER, and that series is all about roaming around the Zone. Some people don't expect the sudden change of direction since they think both series follow the same formula.

Honestly I enjoyed them. The stealth was a little wonky at times, but ultimately it was really good.
haven't played last light yet, but 2033 was bretty gud. i wish it was a little more of a free roam type of deal like stalker was.
I tried Last Light and it's pretty good.
It gets boring as fuck during the second playthrough, though.
Don't buy it for more than $20.

Metro 2033 is good.
Last Light and Redux should be avoided at all costs and if you enjoy them go kill yourself.
You can play it twice I'd say. All levels have secret stealth routs that let you avoid confrontations and discovering them is neat.

In 2033 if you alert any enemy all enemies everywhere will start shooting at you wherever you are.
In Last Light if you alert an enemy and kill them quick enough no one will notice and they also have an alerted state where they do not know exactly where you are. Also throwing knives are one-hit kills which makes the human segments really easy.
Honestly the mutant segments are where shit really gets serious in both of them.

Actually in the original 2033 you really start to suffocate when your gask mask filter is almost used up and I always liked that. They tuned it down in the later ones.

Bought the Redux on PS4 and it's pretty damn good so far, but I'm at the beginning.
The atmosphere is very great. I'm in the first city of the game where I had to follow that one guy and get a AK from him. Found a cool ass air weapon in a building full of those mutants and that thing is pretty damn great.

Polis is 1/2 way through the game and is the last hub in 2033.
It has weapons and armor, but you cannot buy equipment.
Immediately after Polis, you spend roughly 90 minutes outside. Almost immediatley before Polis, you spent 45 minutes outside, evading Nazis.
If you didn't get enough gas-masks at Market, then you're basically fucked and have to start a new game. But hey, hope you bought plenty of Ammo while in Polis, because otherwise when you get to D6, you're going to die horribly.
It doesn't even make sense for Polis to be the last hub, because in the book, Artyom goes back to Riga and VDNKh before going to the surface for a final time.
