The community went to absolute shit with things like SkyDoesMinecraft, DanTDM, fucking Tobuscus creating thousands, if not millions of shitty minecraft gameplay videos, and a COLLECTIVE of fucking horrible 20 second long intros, and then stupid and unneccesary updates were added which turned MC into a dumbed down RPG.
TL;DR by 2013 minecraft's community threw itself and the game into the massive stinking shithole that it is now.
Lack of direction; no real objective other than to build. I don't play Minecraft for the same reason I don't play with my Lego any more.

Went from a comfy survival/exploration game that could be horrifying at times where you had a ton of freedom and could build things to "Turbo AutismBlox 3: Dedidated Wam Edition"
It's not really the fault of anyone in particular. When you figured out what was in those pitch black caves and knew what to expect when exploring the game basically lost its magic and it became a lego simulator.

we liked it, it got popular, more people liked it, it stayed as it was.
We loved minecraft as that period was flooded with graphics whoring linear boring games, minecraft changed everything and we loved its simple and fun approach to gaming. Soon mods came dealing with the BS difficulty of modding and more people came who also loved th esimplicity.
Subsequently the game never got more advanced, notch kept it the same as we liked it that way, modding wasn't changed too much and remained a pain in the ass as it would fuck up mods too badly to change things.
Admittedly I left around the time pistons were added, so things may have changed since then, but at that time things stayed the same as people liked that simplicity. Now everybody is doing it and we are growing tired of what we once loved.
