pretty much this. i think the idea and concept are cool, but the actual game and fanbase are crap. but i cant fault the guy for making it and getting tons of money forever. its a gateway horror media and their isnt much of that these days.
It's not even a fucking walking sim, it's a sitting sim. If you take out the jump scares there's literally nothing left, might as well have been a f2p mobile game. Just goes to show you how far a little lore can take a franchise, though.

The game's are actually fun honestly. I like the atmosphere and there's a somewhat cool story in there. It's just one of those things that I can never admit I like to people because like 95% of the time I don't like other people that like these games. They're cheap games that could provide a cheap scare. Nothing worth drawing porn over.

The first game is simplistic with it's gameplay and is good at setting an atmosphere, the 2nd and 3rd in the series make the mechanics a tad convoluted but are still fairly good at keeping the right tone, 4th one was probably the better of all the sequels since it returned to it's simplistic mechanics and cranked up the spook factor with it's "you are now a kid and your boogeyman is for real"
Story wise I feel it got a little to heavy with the narrative as it went on, should have kept it as the kind of "you gotta look" kind of thing they had going for number one. However on the other hand I feel like it's a pretty neat sort of story telling. The original providing a "where are we now" providing the bases of "killers, animatronics possessed by dead children, and a bite of 87" with the 2nd explaining how the kids ended up in the animatronics, the 3rd telling us what happened to the killer and the 4th giving us the noodle incident of the bite of 87.
it's a good little indie game. Not great, but has enough to be not bad. having said that I am looking forward to seeing how Hollywood is gonna fuck up such a simple premise.
It was allright until it became mainstream and the fanbase got filled with 12 year old autists. Scott Cawthon's a good dev and a good person. Can't blame him for other people finding FNAF good.

FNAF1 was great. I feel it got the atmosphere spot on and it was enjoyable talking about it here during the first week, watching Bugboy on Hitbox be the first to finish 20/20/20/20.
By the time FNAF2 released the fanbase started treading into the realms of creepy, and the game itself didn't really live up to the standards the first set. I felt there was too much twitch gameplay with the fredbear mask and music box. You never really had chance to indulge in the atmosphere.
FNAF3 tried to be different with the single animatronic, but at this point the story started to feel convoluted and it was at this point it felt like the game was trying to force itself to be scary rather than rely on the creepy atmosphere.

The first game was kinda spooky because the animatronics were odd looking but it was believable that they weren't creepy looking to the kids because they still had that slightly innocent or misunderstood look to them. I also thought that the concept of the animatronic mistaking you for a an endoskeleton and killing you over it was pretty terrifying concept. The gameplay is extremely basic and after the first one or two jumpscares, you know the game mechanics and you are aware of it before it happens. The actual gameplay is boring as fuck and you cant even look around the spooky pizzeria because it wastes energy. You cant try and have fun if you want to win.
The second game tried to do the whole "So kid friendly that its scary" type of thing alove with the rest of the animatronics being completely scary looking. When something is that direct in trying to be scary, it just isn't. The whole game tries way to hard to scare the player as your office gets flooded by the robots. Also who the fuck puts a security office at the end of a hallway without a door. If a person were to break in and start shit, you just have to stand at the end of the hallway and hope the cops show up before he does. Tries way to hard. Really tedious to play.
The Third game has probably the best mechanic for getting the player to look at the camera. Intentionally scary animatronic. Game decides it just wants to do this whole haunting thing which is very cliche.
The fourth game just seemed out of place.
Honestly, the only reason people are interested in this game is because the lore and the constant cliffhangers. I still don't think the whole story behind the animatronic gang is put together or ever will be. Its just going to be an endless cycle of
"This happened but I'm not going to tell you how it ties in with the rest of it so make videos about what you think happens. Also make sure you buy FNAF 8 just in case it ties it all up(which it wont)".
