What went right?

Damn near everything. The only thing I would improve are:
1) Increase combat difficulty another notch
2) Make Roach automatically jump over obstacles
Remember when people thought Dragon Age was gonna compete with it?
Do I have to finish the first Witcher game? I'm in the city and it's just become a total slog. I'm guessing the other two games are better than the first one? I really liked the first chapter in the village, but I'm really tired of just running around killing these swamp things over and over. The combat's not great.
Shilling.

CDPR making the Skyrim of The Witcher franchise

Also give Yennefer and Triss the same screen time before making you choose.

ayy
>>321304970
skip 1 it's boring as fuck
>>321304636
I don't know
I find the game awfully boring

It's more of an interactive movie experience kind of deal. I wouldn't jump the gun there and call it a game.
A game is, for instance, Bloodborne. The Witcher 3 is a virgin simulator in which the player watches a movie and believes he is the character walking through it.
>>321304636
Having zero competition makes it easy to win awards.
>>321305703
This
The writing is ok but it has terrible gameplay.
It was easy enough for journos to beat unlike the true GotY.

Came here to say word for word, exactly this.

>It's more of an interactive movie experience kind of deal
Movies shouldn't be 100 hours long

Games should be games and the GOTY shouldn't be a movie.

Easy to swallow gameplay that practically anyone could breeze through even on Deathmarch and feel confident coupled with a cynical but likeable protag scuplted in a familiar Tolkeinesque backdrop with a nicely paced plot.
It's literally the Force Awakens of video: a casual-friendly risk-free frolic that practically anyone can enjoy, while fanboys will claim there is a great reservoir of depth beneath.
MGS was supposed to take every award by storm, but it was completely shit in the end, and you have to wonder what exactly Kojima did for all those years with his useless dick in his hand.
Fallout 4 was a joke, it was so bland.
So TW3 only had one game to compete with: BB. The direct competition was an exclusive that, when the DLC released, "professional gaming critics" were complaining that they couldn't access the DLC from the menu, griping that NG+ was too hard and Ludwig was pushing their shit in.
Also, it's getting rehashed syndrome that's to Dark Souls 2, and despite the fact the game is sharpened to a razor's edge, people just get sick of the same thing over-and-over.
>>321304695
Can you imagine if Roach controlled like D-Horse?
Goddamn.
I don't get the "bad gameplay" meme, on deathmarch shit is amazing. Dodging, rolling, swapping signs constantly while managing potions. Really fun to fight large groups.
Can I fuck the Herbalist
Its a 20+ hour long RPG that actually managed to make people care about the core line up of characters through writing and voice acting.
>game journalist pros group deciding on winner
I just got Witcher 2 cause it was really cheap
How long do you think it will be until Witcher 3 gets down to the $10 or $15 when on sale range?

Yeah I guess I'm not as l33t as all the people cruising through this game on the hardest difficulty despite having played vidya for the last 16 years. At least at the beginning I'm finding every encounter, I have a chance of just getting my ass handed to me. I'm frequently pausing fights to switch spells or use items.
Compare this to most games nowadays where you just go on handhold autopilot and grind through everything, it's pretty refreshing. It definitely makes up for the system itself not being super intricate or fluid.
The only thing i miss are more approaches to combat. I know it's against the lore, but some spears, a bow or some more magic would have shaken things ups.
>>321307517
This. Anyone who says the gameplay is too easy is either simlpy being contrarian or thinks ALL games should be at Dark Souls level of difficulty, which is absurd.
>>321305486
Triss was meant to be the side girl though...

It goes against the lore of the series. kek @ spears
