I didn't have much trouble with them because they don't respawn. You can cheese most of them with a bow if you're slow and careful, and the ones you mess up on you can just use some Blooming Moss. They are annoying because out of nowhere you just see your health draining and TOXIN! I'm surprised people have made such a big deal out of them given they only take 1-2 swipes to kill and don't respawn.

I did the same thing for the first titanite demon. Had a lot of trouble avoiding his attacks (just fucking jumped up and shit on me time after time), so I stood back and fought him with a bow while he threw lightning at me. Took a few minutes but worked.

Just because you were too stupid to figure out what to do doesnt mean you are better than him. The only time someone actually cheeses something is if its an exploit or the developers plainly did not intend for something to be as easy as it is (i.e. getting the drake sword)

For literally every single enemy you come up against there are certain items/weapons/armor/rings that will greatly help overcome it, using these tools effectively isnt cheesing it.

I agree with everything you said except that. I think the developers may have intended it, or at least it's only barely exploiting because you know you can cut off tails to get weapons, so one would imagine you can shoot them off too. I'm sure plenty of people tried shooting the drake at various spots. I know I've shot at many enemies from god knows where.

I consider throwing fireboms into the Capra demon or Manus to be an exploit. That's clearly not intended by any means.

This way game developers can get away with putting ridiculously convoluted secrets in their games, because out of tens of thousands people playing, someone is going to find the solution, because they're bound to statistically.

As far as I remember, it's the master key vs
a) a selection of consumables experienced player have no use for,
b) a small +HP ring whose upgraded couterparts are found in the game anyway
c) the Witch Ring for the Chaos covenant.

So no, in DS1 the consensus is to either go with the MK or the Witch Ring.

You can use the black firebombs to kill the Asylum Demon and get his weapon on the first cycle.

Its description is actually really deceptive, because on the gift selection screen it says it "restores a small amount of hp".

Forgot to add, you don't need the Witch's Ring to join the Chaos Covenant. It just allows you to understand the Fair Lady.

So all in all the Master Key doesn't let you access any extra content.
The witch's ring and firebombs save you a whole NG cycle, if you're into collecting stuff.
The Pendant is kinda the same, since the only other way to get it is random drops from Forest Hunter PvP.

Maybe on your first playthrough you don't know tails drop weapons, but soon into the game you do, and you can go back and try it on the drake. You fight the Gargoyles and find it out which is right at the Parish.
>>
>>321285162
I love that the firebombs let you kill the demon so they aren't just a useless item.

And I love that the game offers you these interesting options, especially the master key. I think its inclusion is genius because it makes the game so interesting to replay.
>>
>>321285661
Well, at Gargoyles you really ought to have a +5 weapon already, and the Drake Sword is hardly any better.
It's only really useful as a crutch for shitters who look up guides etc. Of course you can get it in a later playthrough, but then you should already know that it's not a good weapon.
Although, for collecting purposes, I usually do that with a bow as well. The way the drake moves when it's on the bridge makes it hard to hit the tail.
>>
>>321285906
It's pretty okay for an early weapon but it's definitely not good for hellkite's tail drop.

I still remembered when it launched and everyone was trying to start a fight between Dark Souls and Skyrim for some reason; I think it was because Dark Souls used a picture of a dragon in its promotional material sometimes.

Some proper websites would even have articles like "How does Dark Souls measure up to Skyrim?"

Actually, fuck the end of 2011 to mid-2012. Everything thought everything had to be compared or contrasted with Skyrim.

>>321289745
Why? It wasn't anything special. Aside from the vanila 1.00 version having a number of glaring bugs and problems (which I can't be bothered to list because I'm on my mobile but are all on the Wikis if you're interested), it wasn't some sort of special or magical moment. At the time of release, most of the secrets of the game had already been discovered by people playing the game on livestreams. Like, IIRC, Ash Lake and the Great Hollow were discovered within the first few days of release.

I too picked up way, way too much stuff before starting.

My first try was the crappy noob run with master key, crimson set, and drake sword. I never got very far with that though.

Remember Lost Izalith and the Psychic-All-Knowing Dragon Butts at launch? Good times.

If my entire life was playing through Dark Souls and then forgetting about it and playing it again, I'd be ok with it
>>
>>321289991
Still don't know what was the deal with Skyrim. Even my normie friends who usally didn't play any other video games aside from Fifa were totally psyched about it.
>>
>>321290026
Yeah but not everyone went looking for said livestreams and such so early on.
>>
>>321290221
Yeah, my friends were also the same, especially with Shadow of Mordor. It's really weird.

I had one friend who assured me that after the release of Brink, no other game purchase would ever be necessary because we would play it until the end of time.

He was a bit weird though.
>>
>>321290480
I bet he still plays Brink.
>>
>>321290480
I also have this one friend who always falls for the marketing and acts like the next big AAA game "X" will be the second coming of christ.
The last game he shilled was Fallout 4, wonder what will be next.

Daily reminder that only pussy faggots parry Gwyn. Dodge roll master race.

>That guy who really honestly thought that the Kinect would revolutionize gaming.

I remember him rushing to tell me to watch the Milo video. Top kek.

600 THOUSAND SOULS IN DEBT

IT'S GONNA TAKE SOME TIME TO PAY THE DEBTS!

Souls threads really suck now. I miss when we didn't know anything and argued about what the pendant could possibly be used for instead of this shit.

>literally full of bullshit
>>
>>321283186
okay? I bet it took forever, so what's the point?
>>
>>321288601
too bad you can't see the explosions through the lag and multitudes of effects so you die anyway.
>>
>>321291860
>he doesn't know how to use the pendant
>>
>>321292401
Nope, took 40+ hours to beat all the bosses (or 50+, I forgot) but it is manageable.

>>321292621
The point was that you don't fucking need 25 adaptability to make the game "playable."

Just started running into these guys for the first time. Didn't even realize they were there til I got hit with the toxic status. Blighttown is pretty nervewracking just because of all the high drops. I love the layout though, as you slowly progress downward to the swamp. Opened the shortcut to the Londo ruins. Biggest relief was finding the bonfire at the bottom.
>>
>>321292683
I have no issue seeing them even in a full party with 4 characters worth of fuck you happening

My life per hit and damage reduction just let me tank it all anyways so I never have to move
