Can you guys recommend some good PC games to get lost in over the holidays? I'm looking for simple games that won't kill my CPU. Prefer old school stuff.

Last game I really got lost in and wanted to finish. I was really surprised how much I liked it.
My only complaint is that the game could stand on its own two feet and doesn't need all the unneeded references to old school games.
Still awesome game though.

Also suggesting another metroidvania, Ori and the Blind Forest is pretty damn atmospheric and fun.

You could check Beneath a Steel Sky or FTL.
Or emulate SNES/GBA for dozens of great 2D games, especially if you like JRPGs.

If you liked link to the past, Terranigma is what I enjoyed almost equally, it's a bit more action packed. Check out 16 bit gems on youtube, the guy made a whole series about snes titles.

I got link to the past shortly after it came out when I was a kid and have probably beaten it around 50 times in my life. I've never really been a huge gamer but man I've always loved that game. Will check out Terranigma. Thanks.

no, these are not just numbers. its a freeware hacking game.. plays on a grid. you move around, hack, destroy (enemies?) with abilities you unlock in the level by getting money.
its a puzzle game with multiple ways to win.
i actually haven't played it but it looked cool and i downloaded it.

Old game from the early 2000s, a 2D version of counterstrike. Think Worms but in real-time. You run with WASD and aim with your mouse. Plenty of weapons to try out, including chainsaws and throwing knives. Because of the 2D nature, it's VERY fast paced

Newer game. It's like Worms + Terraria. It's mainly a CTF game where you and your team have to work together to BUILD a fortress while trying to infiltrate the opposing team and work past their defenses.
