Haven't found a game that has allowed me to enjoy grind as much since, however it's most likely rose tinted goggles at least slightly, while MS did a lot right in the Wizet era and the grind was relatively fun, if I was presented it again today, having grinded several MMOs already it would never appeal to me.
The biggest problem with MMOs is that unlike VRMMOs/any representative media of them in LN/manga/anime/etc, there is no 'clever' beating time invested, there is a very small limit to how far cleverness will get you usually, almost all of it is luck (which has to be insane in boss rush style games), or just raw time invested being more than others.
