Come on, the prequels weren't that great but this epic hate Lucas meme for ruining your parents childhood has got to stop, it's not even funny at this point now that VII is hardly better than the prequels.

People keep thinking that lucas is star wars but they forget that he was part of a team for the original trilogies, a team of people who kept his head out of the clouds. The prequels were bad because he had complete creative control, the only good thing to come out of them was the clone wars.

During the original movies he had some humility and realized how much others helped realize them. The older he gets the more crazy egotistical and controlling he gets.

Lucas is a legit asshole, when you look at stuff he has done. Destroying film copies out of spite and more.

1313 was going to be shit, we all saw the gameplay footage, don't pretend it was going to be anything other than a star-wars themed uncharted.
>>
>>321267248
>Implying that's a bad thing

Having a half decent Star Wars game to play is better than no Star Wars game at all
>>
>>321266282
Because he realized that Star Wars was aimed at a younger audience so he wanted to see in a new generations of fans. But all the dipshits who grew up with it didn't want to share and wanted an edgy mature Star Wars for their generations. Hence why this new film feels like it has no fun, and Kucas himself said it was the type of films that fans have been clamoring for but didn't clarify if he liked it or not.
>>
>>321267394
There are plenty of half decent star wars games you faggot.

>>
>>321267039
>his own canon

A lot of those EU arcs are literally fanfiction tier. Including Legacy, where Darth Talon came from. The ones that mattered to Lucas were the ones he primarily oversaw, like both Clone Wars cartoons. 1313 would've been dead in the water if it was about some random smuggler. Boba carries a ton of weight with his name, it was the right move to make since otherwise it was an uncharted clone in space but ultimately it didn't matter since Disney cancelled it.

Besides, Why would Red Fly even have her figure with Maul on the table in the first place?
>>
>>321267476
Lucas Arts was making a point. "Don't fuck with me" type of thing. They are rich enough to take the hit of not releasing the game.
>>
>>321267394
A half decent star wars game would be a blemish on the face of star wars games. I mean it's unnatural the amount of good games that have come from the star wars canon.
>>
>>321267492
>A lot of those EU arcs are literally fanfiction tier.
And a lot of them were a shit load better than anything Lucas as made since Return of the Jedi.

Actually fuck that, some are better than anything he has ever made because the original movies had people that would tell him to fuck off now and then so things didn't turn out stupid.
>>

You're so wrong it's not funny. I think The Clone Wars, Tales from... and Thrawn saga are the only ones that are better than the prequels, the rest are just as bad or worse.

I do give Salvatore guts for killing Chewie though. Poor guy still gets death threats even though it's not canon anymore.
>>
>>321267604
But can they do that to free radical studios? I mean isn't there some contractual obligation to ship the game or pay them out?

Also last time I checked there wasn't any disney kids movies with a stripper getting devoured by a rancor.
>>
>>321268052
Of course they can. They weren't being paid as they supposedly weren't doing their job. Not true but LA knew exactly what they were doing and were most likely using the contracts to their advantage.

Even if they weren't, all that would have lead to was a court battle. Lucas Arts would have won or kept it going till FR had no money to pay for legal fees. You just need a lot of money and LA had that.

I said some where better. You just listed some of the ones that were better. So how am I wrong when you just listed why I'm right....Also Rogue Squadron and I, Jedi. Young Jedi Knight were okay too. And that is just books.

Battlefront was sparse but those games had decent stories as did Republic Commando. There were some decent comics as well. Oh and Shadows of the Empire both game and book.

Lucas is an asshole. He has destroyed original film copies because he was mad people didn't like the special editions awkward CGI inserts.

He is entirely the reason the prequels weren't as good. He went total dictator on them because nobody was around like Ford to just change some lines and tell him to eat a dick over it. Seriously Hayden, fucking Hayden, said he was making Anakin too much of a pussy and got told to shut the fuck up by Lucas. Yet what is the first thing people bitch about on the prequels that isn't JarJar.

The old movies weren't perfect. Much of the EU isn't either. And fuck knows Abrams had no hope to figure out all the EU to work a movie around it and have it come out decent.

But you are paint drinkingly retarded if you defend fucking Lucas. A man who has gone out of his way drunk with power to alienated his actors, old friends, and even the reasonable nonsperging fans.

Nah of course I liked them, not as much as the OT.

I still like them, I acknowledge all their flaws but I have no issue watching the prequels or pretending they never exist.
>>
>>321268581
I was one of the kids that grew up when the prequels were coming out, and I thought they were pretty boring and awkward, and looking back on it now, they still aren't good movies. I didn't even grow up around people who liked Star Wars all that much.
The only good part of the prequels were the video games and stuff to come out of them, because you could get some enjoyment with rolling around as a Droideka or jumping around and shooting missiles as Jango Fett in Battlefront 2
>>
>>321269256
Matrix was sci-fi at the time. Star War is a hybrid and more of a fantasy. Star Trek is more the scifi one. Episode 1 was first one I saw in theaters too.
>>
>>321269232
Bruh, he touted so much about "muh real set" and "no CG" but they were wasted on unmemorable scenaries and bland aliens. The only thing I remember was the winter forest. And there was no new notable alien race.
>>
>>321268810
>Clayton hangs himself
Wrong, he gets hung accidentally and its off screen, when compared to luke having his hand cut off, it's pretty tame.
>Scar is devoured alive by Hyenas
Also not shown on screen, obviously.
>Frollo and the Vizier are into rape
Only if you read a bit into the subtext, something most kids aren't really capable of.

You missed out the part where people are tortured, entire planets are blown up on screen, or obvious drug smugglers are enlisted in the heroes quest or someone is graphically devoured on screen by a rancor (who are pretty nightmare inducing in their own right)
>>
>>321269410

What was the new notable alien race in Empire?
What were the new notable alien races in Phantom, Clones and Revenge?
>>
>>321269410

I don't even think there was a classic alien race aside from Chewbacca. Every alien in Maz's cantina was so unoriginal and forgettable.

>We never see anybody from Alderaan suffer, no images of people dying or screaming out in terror, just a rock being blown up and people commenting on it

Do you think Lucas ever gets sad when someone doesn't acknowledge his ideas?

Like, do you think he actually went home and cried when they gave no feedback to icky and insaneous? Or when he got protests about the switch to Bobba Fett? Or even when they didn't push his Darth Maul friendship?

It's a whole planet being blown up, the implications are pretty stark even for a child. and people comment on it plenty seeing as they are meant to be traveling to a planet and they get there and it's an asteroid field.

>Han doesn't smuggle shit ever
No shit, saving the galaxy is a full time job, however being a smuggler means that in the past you probably smuggled illegal things(I hate the fact that I had to explain that to you).

Artists destroy their work all the time, it's their prerogative.

>>321265313
Lucas actually has really good sense. you'll see stuff from the making of taken out of context, but lucas had a pretty clear set of goals with the prequels which would have actually taken a genius to pull off. A complicated story, that's for kids but adults can watch it, which leads up to this other story and tells the theme of a democracy giving up it's freedom to a dictator and the fall of a major character to evil.

The fact the prequels came out as well as they did is mind blowing considering how ambitious he was.

Also if Lucas was such an asshole, why would he be willing to give away sound effects and shit to comedy movies that want to use them?
>>
>>321265626
>epic hate Lucas meme

>>321266282
It's almost as if the only difference between him before the prequels, and after, was that he had total creative freedom in the prequels, and only partial input with several cooperative producers and other directors in the other movies he worked on...

The good movies he worked on, weren't his 100% creative control, and the crap ones WERE.

These kind of statements don't really translate to people outside of film/tv.

That's how people often talk in that industry when outlining a story.
>>
>>321271584
I think you're missing the broader scope of the statement.

Lucas' early works were good because he had help and he had people to, well, being brutally honest here:
Filter out his bad ideas. And he has a lot of them. There's no denying his creativity. Sure. But that doesn't mean all his ideas are good. If he is left to his own devices all that's going to happen is a team of yes men who refuse to tell him what's bad or what doesn't work because, "oh he's George Lucas he can't be wrong."

Jaws, indiana jones, E.T., All these other films that were great had people to tell him NO.
Don't say, "fuck the fans" and be an unrepentant fan of him that he can do no wrong. Because he very clearly can and does when left on his own.

It's pretty fucking clear that George was probably aware of how much of a risk he was taking with the original films and people weren't afraid to say no to him, so there was levelheadedness during the development
With the prequels, George wanted his vision no matter what and people were afraid to say no to him, so the films went to shit

so was episode VII really that bad? I though it was great but maybe because the prequels were so shit. Empire Strikes back is still the best one

Other than the results? Other than what has happened?

Look at his decisions.
Look at the edits he made to ET and the original trilogy. Look at the prequels. When you look at what happens when it's just his decisions, it's self evident why he shouldn't be doing shit on his own.

What the fuck is a Trade Federation?

Why do they need to blockade a planet and force a queen to sign a treaty making their "invasion" legal? If they want to invade, and they invaded anyway to capture the queen, what the fuck is the point of the treaty?

What was the point of a discussion about "taxing trade routes"?

Why did Qui-gon just accept Anakin as a tag-along follower without question? I mean, he's just a random slave at a random junk dealer. There's gotta be hundreds just like him all over the planet.

Why did the Trade Federation land on the other side of the planet from "the Naboo"? I mean, the Jedi had to go through "the planet core" to get to the Naboo city, right?

What was the point of Darth Maul? What did he actually do?

Come on man, do I really need to do this?

>Why do they need to blockade a planet and force a queen to sign a treaty making their "invasion" legal? If they want to invade, and they invaded anyway to capture the queen, what the fuck is the point of the treaty?

I can give you two answers. 1. (more narrative) Because the republic could kick their shit in for fucking with one of their worlds so they needed to have them agree to being bitches. 2. In a large system with multiple semi-autonomous entities overruled by a larger one it would be unlawful trade federation territory without it. The term Trade Federation makes it fucking obvious what it is, it's self descriptive.

It was a group self governed planets, who answered to a central government with an emphasis on trade and finance as political power. That central body also was a member of the Republic and represented their federation of planets.

Blockades are not an inherently violent thing, when you want to avoid war but need to make a statement and force an issue, a blockade can do that. The treaty would have caused the self governing Naboo to join the Trade Federation, allowing them military and economic rights to the planet. It could have been undone in the long run, but short term it works for them and they can get the Republic senate to do nothing for a long time easily.

The TF claimed Naboo was overtaxing, hence the blockade. That's all it was.

Because the force.

The TF was occupying all major settlements, i don't even understand your question.

He was an assassin, he was only partially successful. The plan revolved on not getting the senate to react in time, and the Jedi could force the issue.

Apparently you do.

>What the fuck is a Trade Federation?
A federation of traders, obviously run by corrupt schmuks

>Why do they need to blockade a planet and force a queen to sign a treaty making their "invasion" legal? If they want to invade, and they invaded anyway to capture the queen, what the fuck is the point of the treaty?
They galaxy is run by a senate. You can hardly just invade some planet on a whim and not expect repercussions. They had to make it look like "not an invasion" by getting the queen to sign a treaty, probably stating they're there on official buisiness. I honestly don't get how you could not have followed this. Were you that young at the time?

>What was the point of a discussion about "taxing trade routes"?
No idea to be honest. Can't remember that part, wasn't probably important.

>Why did Qui-gon just accept Anakin as a tag-along follower without question? I mean, he's just a random slave at a random junk dealer. There's gotta be hundreds just like him all over the planet.
Because he clearly felt the force was extremely strong with him. Seriously, have you even watched the movie? Did you even pay attention? Fuck's sake man.

Why did the Trade Federation land on the other side of the planet from "the Naboo"? I mean, the Jedi had to go through "the planet core" to get to the Naboo city, right?
It's one of the many ships. There were plenty more that landed closer to the city. By the time they arrived, the city was already captured.

>What was the point of Darth Maul? What did he actually do?
A sith apprentice, trained by Palpatine. He was there to announce the return of the sith and to try and capture the queen. Maybe Palpatine even sensed Anakin and wanted him.

The movies are not the best, but you have clearly just not been paying attention when you watched them. All your questions are pretty retarded.

It could have been undone in the long run, but short term it works for them and they can get the Republic senate to do nothing for a long time easily.

But they didn't just blockade the planet. They literally surrounded it and then immediately fucking invaded.

And they not only invaded, but they killed a shitload of people.

So what exactly were they trying to accomplish? Get Naboo to stop "overtaxing"? (Taxing who? Who the fuck do they place taxes on? The Trade Federation? People selling things to the Trade Federation? None of it makes sense).

And why the fuck do they need a blockade to be "legal"? IT'S A FUCKING BLOCKADE. It's a military action. You don't make the person who loses a was sign a paper saying it was legal for you to attack them.

Also, how did no one in the Senate know or care what was going on? The Trade Federation, who had people on the Senate, just attack another planet and no one cares because they're "tied up in delegations"? Isn't that some pretty serious shit? Like, it's a corporation fucking killing a shitload of people for no real reason other than "Waaah they made us pay taxes!"?

What the fuck?
>>
>>321273605
>Because the force.
The biggest issue with this is they had to make a reason to know he was going to be good with the force even though they had no reason to know or believe that.
So they had to make up a reason.

Boom.
Medichlorians. Now they can quantify, measure, and examine the force. Except it's been previously established by movies made years earlier that the force is a religion. It's mystical. It's like space magic.

And, not to tip any fedoras here, but, the two are mutually exclusive. If you can quantify and prove the force is a thing, is real, and can measure it and quantify it, it isn't magic. It isn't a religion. It's a principle of science. This goes back on what's been previously established and gets stated later on. They use very flowery poetic words to describe the force.

However Obi-Wan is present when Qui-Gon talks about it in a very scientific, matter of fact fashion. This alone creates a very jarring disconnect between the two movie series. Is the force a law of the universe, or is it a belief system of space sorcery?
This is conveniently forgotten for a plot point of why they should drag this snot nosed little brat along. Because honestly, in a war, why WOULD you unless you had a damn good reason. And "I had a hunch" isn't going to really convince a lot of people.

>went down easier than the Death Star
That's complete bullshit. They had to blow open a big ass hole to get inside and be able to destroy it. And it took several explosives and an X-wing blasting the everloving shit out of it to do the job. The Death Star already had a hole conveniently pre-installed and it took one fucking shot for it to blow. Why do you faggots insist on being wrong about everything?

Finn stood up just fine against Ren for a period of time. That's fucking bullshit considering how storm troopers are just fodder for force users. It was nothing but fanservice to the nig nog community. Look! We Jedi now!

>If you can quantify and prove the force is a thing

You can quantify the force when you start lifting things with it. Midichlorians actually only quantify a CONNECTION with it. They provide the connection, not the actual force. I don't get why people can't fucking pay attention enough.

>his alone creates a very jarring disconnect between the two movie series

That was kinda the point. "look how much they used to understand about this shit before the Empire fucked it all up"

>>321274234
>>You can quantify the force when you start lifting things with it.
But that's wrong. Because like Yoda says, it doesn't matter how big or small a thing is, since the force is everywhere and flows through everything, you just need to commune with it to move something no matter the size.

That's different than "Yeah, you have 50 midichlorians, so you can emit 100 units of Force power".
>>
>>321273897
Rey beat Ren because he's a fucking scrub who lets his emotions control him and he's already injured when the fight begins. Rey is losing until she calms herself (something Ren is unable to do) and allows the force to guide her. Also she's a fucking Skywalker.

>>321273928
This man gets it.
>>
>>321274285
>you expected him to just be skewered in a second?
Yes. A coward janitor should have NO chance against a Sith disciple. It's awful consistency.
>>
>>321273996
Why do people get this misconception that midichlorians are the force? And they're spelled with "midi". They're microscopic beings that lives within all living things and communicates with the force. The higher the count, the more in-tuned a person is with the force. The force itself is a mystical entity separate from midichlorians.
>>
>>321274241

>>321274138
How is it that nobody even attacked them until they were literally firing at the weak point though? Like this is a super secret base. The millennium falcon had to come out of hyperspace directly onto the surface to prevent anyone from noticing, and yet the bad guys let an entire squadron fly in without destroying it? Didn't they have any AA artillery?
>>
>>321274487

No, he said it's time that Kylo completes his training, implying that he had trained with the evil dude before
>>
>>321273996
The Jedi were eventually nearly wiped out. Maybe the force became a mystical, religious thing because the science of it died with the jedi order? That would leave just outsiders, who didn't know about the midichlorian shit, go propagate the myth that it was something mystical because they didn't understand it.
>>
>>321274380
youre not understanding the pottery anon. the fight at the end of TFA was literally ESBs and ROTJs fight in one. kylo is cocky and lets finn get a hit in and then wrecks finn (ESB vader) and then beats rey but loses because rey taps into the dark side (ROTJ vader). theyre seriously worse than lucas when it comes to pottery
>>
>>321274548

Yoda and obi-wan.
Yoda because, well, he was literally there and they literally talk about yoda's midichlorian count.

And obi-wan literally met with the counsel, was trained by the counsel and by qui-gon, who literally is the one who talked about this. This shit didn't die out. It didn't get forgotten.

The people saying it's mystical are the same people who were taught it wasn't.

Lucas definitely fucked some shit up. There is no debating that. But look at some of the amazing games to come from the Star Wars license

>Rogue Squadron Series
>Episode 1 Pod Racer
Shadows of the Empire
>X-Wing/Tie Fighter series
>KOTOR 1 and 2
>Original Battle Front Series

And there are probably a couple of things that I'm missing. If you're going to fault him and Lucas Arts for fucking everything up, you got to give them credit for the shit they licenses that was great.

Watch. Disney will NEVER release a good Star Wars game, because they want to farm out Re-Skins to EA and pump out Disney Infinity shit.

I think they see the mask and assume that means he's a Sith or something.

Like, they missed the point, that he wore the mast to be intimidating because he wasn't actually that intimidating at all normally, and because he's kind of just a bitch with anger issues.

They established pretty well that he was more like that angsty teenager who bought a katana on Ebay and swings it around a lot so he's comfortable holding it, but he's not a trained fighter or anything. He's just, you know, more comfortable using it than the guy who's never even seen one in his life.

DS took one shot. Starkiller base took several explosives and a ton of shots. This is fact.

>>
>>321274386
>Why do people get this misconception that midichlorians are the force?
Because they are used to measure someone's connection to it, in a very scientific fashion. That is mutually exclusive to it being religious or mystical.

As it's a principal of science that's well understood.

>>
>>321274824
But it's not scientific in the fact that a person's midichlorians count doesn't directly equate to a specific number of "force" they can use. Anakin had a higher midichlorian count but he was still weaker than Palpatine or Yoda. All midichlorians do is communicate with the force. The more of it you have, the more in tuned you are. That's all it means. There is no equation relating the two.
>>
>>321274487
Kylo Ren is a Knight of Ren. He was personally trained by Snoke, Snoke being essentially being one of the original Sith. Regardless, that other anon is crying about nothing. It's pretty likely Finn is force sensitive and likely to become a Jedi.

this

Why does everybody just forget this? Its well established early in the film that she knows how to fight and she probably has more fighting experience than Kylo considering that she lived around thieves her entire life.
>>
>>321274921
And you're not giving Luke / Obi-Wan enough credit. Their whole squadron got wiped out, and if not for Han and Luke / Obi-Wan guidance, they would have lost.

It was literally a MIRACLE that Luke was able to not only survive the trench, but was able to make the shot, and guilt Han Solo to return just in the nick of time.

He was also being chased by Vader who was one of the most accomplished pilots in Star Wars history.

What you saw in SK? Was literally Return of the Jedi. Ground team blows some shit up. Someone flies inside and blows it up. Doesn't even take a Jedi. A janitor and two old ass smugglers did it, and only one of them died because of personal reasons.

Your logic is flawed.

>>321275082
>Kylo Ren is a Knight of Ren.
From the way he acts and fights, I assume that was a bunch of kids who were given lightsabers and black clothing and told to go around acting tough, rather than an actual order of trained knights.

She's used to fighting with a bow staff looking thing where poking would be a smart thing to do to keep your distance
>>

>>
>>321275093
Because fighting and fighting with a lightsaber are two different things. We have no personal ability to judge because lightsabers don't exist, but it is stated multiple times in canon that the lightsaber is an incredibly difficult weapon to wield and generally requires force sensitivity or otherwise super human dexterity, especially if you didn't create it yourself,

>>321275072
>But it's not scientific in the fact that a person's midichlorians count doesn't directly equate to a specific number of "force" they can use.
No.
It measures how in tune with someone is with the force.
Which is scientific.

You can scientifically measure how in tuned someone is with the force.
This would be akin to measuring someone's relationship with Jesus based on a blood test. If you could do that the entire scientific and religious community would be turned upside down.

Instead we're to believe this was the case all along. Instead of in the original movies when it's referred to, at best of times, "mystical" and harshly by the empire as, "a cult" and "antiquated religion."

The former by jedi masters themselves who were _taught_ about midichlorians. This is not something you can just say doesn't contradict itself when the tone is VASTLY shifted to the point of being inconsistent.

sure, but the emotional wreck aspect is common to dark siders. Thats the whole point of the dark vs light thing. Dark siders USE their anger and light siders suppress their anger and rely on focus.

And yeah, he was wounded, also a fair fight.

The thing is though, he is winning against Rey until she just shuts her eyes and "uses the force." Then she just fucking wails on him. Like they tried to make it look like her superior force ability won her the fight, but then directly contradicted that with how the fight actually went.

>>
>>321275407
No, that is not scientific because we have no idea what the force actually is. It's like saying a person with a higher metabolism can create energy faster and has a higher potential for athleticism. But we cannot measure athleticism. Athleticism is everywhere, even animals display it, but the actual display of it comes downs to unmeasurables, like heart and determination, as well as measurables, like body lifting capacity and lung endurance.

>>
>>321275751
The capability of athleticism is very much measurable.

You yourself said this:
>All midichlorians do is communicate with the force. The more of it you have, the more in tuned you are.

Right.
So therefore:
Measuring midichlorians means you can measure how in tuned with the force someone is.
Measuring and quantification of something is scientific. If it were mystical or magical, it would be unquantifiable, unobservable, and immeasurable. These are properties of something that is either magic or mystic. A belief. Or a religion. Any of those.

In this case, it's scientifically possible, in that universe, to know how in tuned with the force someone is, in your words.

They don't do huge plot twists like that, save for vader, luke and leia's relationship, which is basically the only plottwist of the entire franchise.

I'm not debating those last two points and we don't really know how his betrayal of Luke went down. He could've asked them to join, they said no, and he slew them there. >Yes, and that doesn't contradict with anything Obi-Wan says.
Considering everyone in the movies after the prequels calls it either mystical, or a cult, or an antiquated religion:

Yeah.
It does.
The reason people have a problem with midichlorians is that it tried to scientifically explain something that wasn't ever supposed to be scientific in the first place. It was supposed to be the equivalent of space magic, and, in order to fill a convenient plot gap they rushed in so they could measure it very cheaply and it really made it retroactively made it look like something very much like it was not at all magical.

In literal terms:
They found a way to make the force sound boring.
>>
>>321276576
The force is mystical. Midichlorians aren't. What don't you understand?

Pretty sad, never thought I'd miss any of Lucas' bullshit but at least the prequels had an element of spectacle.

He was more suave, cool, more of an anti-hero.

A gunslinger with attitude. He doesn't believe in magic, and is kind of hard nosed. The biggest quip he gives is the Tauntaun (I thought they smelled bad on the outside.) If anything, he's more of a smooth talker, with the exception being when he shoots the console in the death star.

Compare:

"Charging into that battlestation isn't my idea of a courage. It's more like suicide."

to

"So, it's bigger."

But you're measuring how in tune with it someone is.

Which is scientific.
>Hence the gas meter and gasoline analogy.
Which is still scientific in either case.
You aren't seeing the gas or observing it directly.
But you're measuring it and quantifying it.

In a very scientific fashion.
In this case:
The gas isn't magic. It's scientific. You don't speak of gas in flowery poems as though it were some mystic force that flows through us and binds us and makes all things in the universe one.

No, gas is a very well understood chemical, we know how it works and what it does and how to harness it and how to tell where it is and how much of it there is. So we don't talk about it like it's something beautiful, or like it's something strange and unique.

It's gas and we tap into it and use it like a tool and nothing more.

Ok gas is a bad analogy (it wasn't mine but I did get what he was getting at)
Now lets say we have a different type of fuel (the force), this fuel is unpredictable sometimes one unit will take you 10 miles sometimes it will take you 100 miles, now if you were to take a count of said fuel and you had 10 units that would be like taking a medichlorian count.

Sure, it's technically measured in a scientific manner but the data produced is hardly relevant and you could never hope to provide an accurate depiction of how far you would get on the fuel.

>>
>>321278553
Measured but unquantified.

It would mean there's an unaccounted for link between efficacy and midichlorian count.

But still scientific. Even if things were unknown. It's like dark matter or dark energy today. We don't fully understand it but we know they exist based on the effects they have on on surrounding bodies and our understanding of other forces at work.

The expansion of the universe for example. It SHOULD be slowing down. But it's not. It's speeding up. At an alarming rate. This leads us to believe an unknown "force" is propelling objects outward. Likewise, how do you observe a black hole, when even light escapes it? You can't see something when light won't bounce off it or come out of it?

It's tricky, but, it took us a while to figure out that we were able to see stars _through_ other objects. And for a while, we thought this was due to an obfuscation of the lens or damaged mirrors. Not so. This was due to light being bent around objects due to the gravitational well of certain objects. (Well, that's my understanding of it anyway. The actual explanation may be a bit more long winded.)

Suffice to say, you can't and won't ever directly observe some phenomenon, due to their nature.

Back to the matter:
While your data extrapolated from the force would be inaccurate and tentative at best, something scientific, through the scientific method, is still being gathered.

And, more to the point:
Being able to measure someone's midichlorians and how in tune they are with the force, or measure how, well, relevant they are to the force kind of ruins its mysticism. A haunted house isn't scary with its lights on. To put it bluntly, not knowing was the fun part. That was the whole point. And knowing about it really does take away some enjoyment for a lot of fans.

Does that help?

What the fuck? Episode 3 is BY FAR the edgiest Star Wars movie and it's awful.

Episode 2 is also pretty dark, being dark isn't what made Star Wars' OT great, being a fun adventure movie with memorable, likeable characters was.

Getting a "new generation of fans" is a retarded excuse, kids liked Star Wars in 1977, why would he need to pander even more in 1999 with The Phantom Menace?
>>
>>321279492
No, lucas wanted a name for the moniker "starkiller" or whatever that fag was and those were the options.
Jeez get your facts straight.
>>
>>321279612

The original movies were also for 12+ anon. Stop kidding yourself.

Yet the prequels were.

fuck that.

Kids loved the lightsaber fights in Episodes 1 and 3, the movies as a whole? Doubt anyone stuck in the DVD to rewatch that political drama again.

Because we live in the star wars universe, right?
Wow, I can't believe you kept the facade of an intelligent debate up for this long.

I was 9 and already a big fan of star wars when EP1 came out in 1999. I didn't like the childish stuff like jar jar or the retarded bots, Star Wars was campy previously, but not outright childish.

All star wars movies are aimed at a young audience, with enough themes to entertain adults.

We can measure and quantify less about dark energy and dark matter than the star wars universe can about the force.

Yet dark energy and dark matter are scientific concepts.

Nah come on, I liked TFA but the Canteena scene was just tacked on and forgettable compared to the one in the original.

The original had that cheeki breeki fuck pop up at the start, the pig looking fellow at the bar, Greedo, and the bollock heads playing that super memorable music.

They actually are.
They exist as unquantifiable black boxes of unknowable something that they toss into equationas of the universe to dance around the fact that maybe JUUST maybe einsteinein physics is wrong.
Logically it doesn't make fucking sense in a lot of places and a good chunk of it is just fancy completely bullshit math equations that einstein and his cronies made up to hide the fact that a lot of the stolen theories he duct taped to his stupid basic ideas(that he stole from his ex wife) didn't fit

Jackson didn't suffer from yesmen, he suffered the opposite
from LotR, he was being bitched at from all corner about muh women, muh colored people and muh gays, but he managed to pull it from the storm and make a great trilogy

Come Hobbit season, the ushering in was the middle eastern woman who wanted to be a hobbit, then it spiraled into making some mary sue elf, and that one scene in Laketown where they keep fucking staring at that giga nigger woman, and Jackson just gave up, among other things, because he couldn't do what he wanted in his film anymore, without licking the gooch of 5 different feeling officers
Add that with the fact that smaug was pretty much already done before Jackson could even doodle his first sketch, and Benedict cumberbitch was shoved into role because Martin can not apparently go 1 day without his friend

I don't think you get this, but midichlorians are not the force. The star wars universe only knows that the force is in everything and you can use it to do crazy shit.
People know a lot about midichlorians, but that's because they are a biological entity and not the force.
>>
>>321280586
Basically this, plus he had to make up shit as he went on due to scheduling constraints and he really didn't care that much about those films in the first place
>>
>>321280786
Not sure if you're the other guy, but, the other guy was explicitly stating how midichlorians are how in tune you are with the force.

You can measure midichlorians in a blood stream.

Therefore, through simple logic, you can measure how in tune someone is with the force.

That's pretty damn scientific. Not saying that's the force or measuring the force. But that's scientific and it really removes the mystical magical nature the other movies state it is/has.
>>
>being surprised that half of 4chan is being contrarian
Happens literally every time a major well received movie or game is released. This being Star Wars amplifies this 10 times.
>>
>>321280982
But it's just saying how one can use the force, not what the force is.
>>
>>321281059
Right, and how adept they are with it.
Again, measuring it.
This attaches a scientific quality to it.
>>
>>321280586
Jackson was behind the most popular fantasy movie on the planet since harry potter and was able to make tolkien retarded ramblings work.

This nigga is bullet proof as far as things go. He can loudly tell everyone to suck his cock on national television and it will only make people want to go see whatever he limped to the barn with.

The dude either has no fucking spine or he's just in it for the dosh and didn't care.
>>
>>321278773
>>321278931
That was so fucking weird. Could have ended on a shot of Luke's face, or him taking the lightsaber, or some kind of silhoette shot of them both, but no.

It seemed like some "in between shot" before the last shot, it was so fucking odd to end it on such a low-impact shot, especially when you compare it to the first two movies that ended on really iconic images.
>>
>>321281134
But it doesn't measure adeptness. Anakin would be more adept than Yoda as a kid, but he isn't.

It's just a macguffin to state "You can use the force because of this. You are the chosen one because you have this much force juice in your blood and were born like Jesus."

It's literally the only time it's even mentioned in this light. They have a way of detecting if you're able to tap into the force in a scientific way. The actual force is something else completely different, and even someone with a low count can tap into the force to become powerful.

Midichlorians does not equal adeptness or skill level, or even belief. It's just a reason beings are able to call on the force, not a what or how, or how strong.
>>
>>321280586
There is plenty of stories of him having to be yelled down from doing something in LOTR where in the hobbit he said jump and everyone else said how high.

The scene that gets me from all the bullshit hobbit scenes was the goddamn elf rocking on the dwarf and glowing a bright light
>>
>>321280870
>>321281173
There was actually a long time frame from where The Hobbit was planned to be made as a 2 part movie, then a four part, 2 being the hobbit, and 2 being the bridge to LotR

They (MGM, NLC, and some other yokles at hollywood) wanted to give Jackson the boot and let some fresh blood have a go at tolkiens work
Jackson bitched and moaned, and somehow made Guillermo Del Toro walk away from the directors chair

>>
>>321281491
How is that a problem? How is it not conceived that summoning lightning from your finger tips, jumping 30ft, meditating, and listening to the force isn't a religion?

Just because they used to have a blood test initiation? It's a religion dude. They live in a temple. They can tell you're force sensitive before they even test you. They do that for some kind of record, to study Jedi, to learn more.
>>
>>321281549

>>321280982
I'm not that guy, I assumed they were just biological entities attracted to force users in a random manner
>Therefore, through simple logic, you can measure how in tune someone is with the force.
Nope, even qui-gon says he doesn't fucking know what a high midichlorian count means. I'm assuming they use it mainly as a true/false thing like
>oh you have midichlorians in your blood turns out your a force sensitive
Rather than
>you have (x) amounts of midichlorians, you are a 4th level padawan

The force is still mystical as ever, if not more so now that there is some kind of entity that is drawn to it throughout the vast regions of space.

>>321281414
Literally everything you said about Jackson is so fucking false.

He originally didn't want to do the Hobbit movies. Del Toro eventually took the reigns but backed out for whatever reason, that's when Jackson caved in and stepped back in. That's why the movies were a mess because he wasn't interested in them.
>>
>>321281614
>They can tell you're force sensitive before they even test you.
Then why didn't they in Phantom Menace?

It's not an initiation in any form since they used it as a reason to move the plot forward because without it Anakin would have stayed on sand land and would have never become Darth Vader and made a better movie.

It's because they needed a reason to bring Anakin along because he was a little brat and they had no reason to because giant gaping plot hole. Why would they want Anakin in the first place? No reason. Oh wait, we need to get him off that planet so he can make a better movie.

Oh wait, midichlorians. THAT'S WHY.
>>
>>321281854
The whole reason Qui-gon tests him, and investigates Anakin's past is because he feels he is force sensitive.

It's not like he was like, "Well, I'll give you a blood test for the shits and giggles of it, little kid."
>>
>>321281745
https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Peter_Jackson_banned_from_working_with_New_Line

NLC and MGM were the backers for The Hobbit btw
>>
>>321281854
>Then why didn't they in Phantom Menace?
Maybe they needed a more visual analogue, rather than qui-gon just saying
>I feel this child is strong with the force, lets nab 'em

That being said it was shown in the first ever star wars film that force users could detect one and other through the force.
>>
>>321281936
Then that just lends credence to midichlorians being unnecessary, doesn't it?
It makes them seem mind boggling stupid.

If it's a religion of monks and people who think they might be strong with the force, then they aren't going to be like, "well have you got proof?"

No. Because it's religion. It's mysticism. Anything that's provable or falsifiable or measurable or quantifiable would be SCIENCE.

A blood test is science. Not magic or mysticism. Likewise, little bacteria and organisms. No - that's not what a religion is based on.
>>
>>321282241
But the Force chooses who is sensitive. They worship and ally themselves with the force. The midicholorians are a 'gift' and allows them to tap in and perceive the force. The force is in all living beings, it binds us, and gives a Jedi his power.

Also if you think that a civilization on that technological scale would not examine its members more closely to try and learn more about themseleves, you're fucking stupid.

>Have a cult of super powered warriors with literal super powers
>Not investigate the whys and hows at a genetic level

It would be stupid if they didn't do it. Did you ever wonder what is in the Jedi Libraries and temples? Science, records, and interpretations of the will of the force.

That's what the midiclorians are. The will of the Force. Jedis are not anti science, by the way. They worship the force. That is a religion. They live by it and die by it. That's as religious as it gets, mate. It's Jedi Temple, not Jedi Lab-Complex Center.
>>
>>321282241
>If it's a religion of monks and people who think they might be strong with the force
No, to be a jedi, you have to be a force adept, that's just how it works. Maybe that's why they have a test for it? Also Mysticism probably works differently when people can actually move rocks with their minds. May as well argue the point of religion in settings where god obviously exists.

>>
>>321282498

>The force is in all living beings,
It's in everything, unless yoda's wrong in ep 6.

Then it is not magical or mystical, now, is it?
Or religon. I'm not anti theistic or against religion, so I'm not biased.
But religion and science are mutually exclusive.

>jedi science
This is pretty much again, contrary to what happens in episodes 4 5 and 6.

Yup, totally.
>>
>>321282498

That is science.
>>
>>321282871
It is in all living beings, but that doesn't mean they can utilize it.
>>321282871
>But religion and science are mutually exclusive.

>This is pretty much again, contrary to what happens in episodes 4 5 and 6.
Because all the jedi in 4 5 and 6 are in caves and swamps, the fuck kinda science a nigga gonna do in the swamp?
>>
>>321282871
I'm sorry, there were only two Jedi in existence at the time, they didn't have a whole laboratory to go through and a whole government backing them.

You just refuse to believe that midichlorians are not important, they exist for the sole reason to say: Yes, you can be a Jedi. You can hear the force. You can use the force.

It is not the force itself, it exists to state why a Jedi can use the force. What you see in 4, 5, 6 is literally about The Force. Yoda touches Luke on the shoulder and says something like this: "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter."

What you are griping about is just a test to see if you are force sensitive. It doesn't dictate how strong you are with the force or anything else. Jedis also practiced science, just so you know and kept history and records, but that does not mean that they don't devote themselves to the Force. That's why they meditate and listen to it, and have a code. They are viewed as religious practices, not scientific. That's how other entities and outsdiers view it too.
>>
>>321283208
>Tip that fedora harder, sir.
If you don't have an argument, say so.
Because that isn't an argument.

>Because all the jedi in 4 5 and 6 are in caves and swamps, the fuck kinda science a nigga gonna do in the swamp?
They're the same jedi that know the same shit from the earlier ones. that shit doesn't work.
>>
>>321283169
That's not what we're debating. Jedi's obviously practiced science, but they are a religious faction, who worship the light side of the Force. It's not like Science is outlawed in modern day religion either. Science is a part of life and in a science fiction setting, it's probably a gigantic part of it.

So I don't see why it's unfeasable that at the height of their power, Jedi would draw blood and see common things in themselves and want to investigate it? They don't even know what it means, other than force users have midiclorians.
>>
>>321283072
Must have missed that part. Care to quote it for me?
>>
>>321283385
What do you want him to do, draw his blood and say, "Luke you have midichlorians in your blood. This is our belief system." It doesn't change anything that they know that force users have midichlorians in their blood. They can feel it before they even test you, it's just a record. Data to pass on.
>>
>>321283385
>religion and science are mutually exclusive
that's wrong so I didn't need to argue it, I just wanted to laugh at you.
>>
>>321283554
All he says is you can feel the force everywhere. Between you, me, the tree, the rock. Even between the land and the ship. Not the rock, and ship specifically. Around it.

Obi-wan describes it in ANH as an energy field around all living things.
>>
>>321283337
>I'm sorry, there were only two Jedi in existence at the time, they didn't have a whole laboratory to go through and a whole government backing them.

This does not mean what they knew then suddenly evaporated. They're the same people. Their thoughts and what they knew didn't change unless you believe them to be terribly stupid and forgetful. And there was nothing in 4 5 and 6 to lead anyone to believe that.

>they exist for the sole reason to say: Yes, you can be a Jedi. You can hear the force. You can use the force.
>they were unimportant
Then there was no reason to put them in, than to make the force seem a lot less mystical and magical isn't there?

>It is not the force itself
Oh really? I didn't know that! Thanks for telling me! That's such new information!

>>321283554
