they changed waves so now they are really violent depending on your settings
they completely re-designed the map system so instead of being pregenerated it's a single map that gets seeded I think
new crafting system and you can climb up palm trees again, I think sharks are more rare now? islands look more realistic, some islands have lagoons and giant rocks
