Oh yes, if you decide to emulate this also try Shining the Holy Ark. Those two games are the best RPGs on the system and STHA runs better on emulators than a real Saturn. Dragon Force is good too.

What do people think of PDS these days, if they do at all? The price tag is still as crazy as it was long ago.
My copy survived a fire this year, but my Saturn did not. It had a region switch and everything, damn.
I was able to buy a modchip this year from Sega Style before they cleared their stock. Currently playing Panzer Dragoon 1 and Guardian Heroes. Should I drop those and go straight for Saga?

Phantasy Star 4 is a better RPG. The story, characters (or lack thereof), and dungeon designs were shit in PDS. Also having to move around constantly into the safe/green zone in battles got old fast.
As for Saturn's magnum opus, that would have to be Shining Force III Pts 1-3.

It's good in that they took features from Saga, like morphing the dragon for different stats and battle positioning, and made it real time. It's not mindblowing but it's a really wonderful game and a direct continuation of some of the things laid out in Saga.
