The man's a screen actor, not a voice actor. He doesn't have the range, the tone, the ability to manipulate his diaphragm sufficiently to produce varied inflections. Even if the director did give him proper instruction and some creative liberty he wouldn't be able to do anything passing quality.
And let's not forget Square's history of re-suing old voice talent. You'd better believe you'll be hearing James Arnold Taylor and Liam O'Brien. Fucking screencap this for release and I guarantee they'll have had at least 1 line.

Okay, Anakin. If you want FFVII with absolutely nothing different but pretty visuals, you have the HD version. I'm a big FFVII fan, and I'm glad they're not using the ATB system, there's nothing exciting about watching two groups bob in place while you navigate menus and tell them to dash forward, smack someone, then hop back into place. It was amazing and awesome when I was a kid, but after twenty years it's time for a change.

This is one of those times I really have to disagree with Jim.
While I also think that turn based combat has it's merits, I also think that the ATB system specifically is one of THE worst examples of a TBS and combines the worst elements of action combat with basic elements of TB combat in order to create an abomination of the worst kind.
The thing where TBS shines are strategic and tactical thinking, interesting resource management and risk/reward assessment. It also more often than not allows for much more varied and in-depth character building compared to what action gameplay usually allows.
The ATB system slaps a very small but shitty action element into the mix, that creates a situation where it foregoes a lot of potential tactical gameplay decision making in favor for time pressure mechanics.
TBS creates games where your decisions are what influences the results above all.
Action gampelay creates games where your reflexes and dexterity influence the result above all.
ATB does not move the Battlesystem very much into action category, but it demands a certain amount of dumbing down the potential good aspects of TBS games.
TL;DR:
Turn based systems are fine, but ATB is shit.

This isn't Ridley where there's only one absolute thing that defines FFVII, especially not something a bunch of other games have as well.
