I just don't get it.
Princess Daisy has been a staple Mario character, playable in various Mario Sports/Party/Kart games. People have wanted this sassy tomboy to appear in platformer for years now, and when the perfect opportunity arises in the form of Mario Maker, Nintendo just forgot about her, and decided to add Mahjong Tiles and Mercedes cars instead...
We have almost every major Mario character in the game already, even Waluigi joined in. Plus Birdo, Captain Toad and Paper Mario joined in post-release. Plus a bunch of characters from Smash, and a truckload from Animal Crossing. Even obscure characters like Master Belch and Mr Saturn!
Adding Daisy surely couldn't be hard, there has been convincing sprites made for her already. This one stays true to her modern look while not simply being a Peach palette swap.

I used to think that they excluded Daisy because of Mario Land's rocky history, but the Sky Pop costume was included too! Now I'm just confused. They went through the process of making a new piece of artwork + a HD model for Mario Tennis, which takes much more time and manpower!
