I think they should have had a playable Midgar demo finished before they even announced it. Something you can put in the player's hands to show them what ideas you have for the moment. A little sandbox area of Midgar to do some classic VII stuff, have "BETA" stamped on the corner so people know it isn't a full thing yet.
Even Red Ash let you run around in the assets they had finished. Out of desperation but still, there is a novelty to the idea.
Right now all the VII fans are wallowing in doubt because everything they have said so far sounds like their worst fears.

If you attack him too much with physical attacks, he will transform into a physical damage monster who has high defense, only way to beat him is using magic
If you use a lot of magic, he will turn into a caster who's only weak to physical damage
i didnt know this till pretty late though, since my first walktroughs were pretty dumb. Like, every character MUST have restore with all, and every elemental magic, and all summons, shit like that. So i used magic tons of times, fortunaly ending with the easiest one everytime.
