Why all the hate with 5 and 6? I actually enjoyed them both, yeah they weren't the same survival horror as 1-3 and CVX but they were still great.
To be honest the whole game changed as soon as 4 was released, it's no longer survival horror.

I missed out on the original RE and played the RE2 first and when the remake first came out this is what I played the most. A few years back I finally played the original version and love the shit out of it. It's just there is something about those pre-rendered 90s 3D graphics that trigger incredible comfy in me. I hope the shitty 90s pre-rendered background graphics and midi sountrack is going to be a thing like the "retro 8bit/16bit" indie games are in the near future.

Well, I was okay with Barry coming back because it was about his daughter. Having said that, I don't think he should ever show up again as a playable character. Chris really needs to retire. Probably more than any other character. They are just looking for bullshit excuses now to keep him here after Wekser's death. He felt really, really unnecessary in RE6. RE really just needs new characters in general. I think a cool idea would be give us a new cast and have the known popular characters just play non-playable supporting roles.

Confession: I really enjoyed RE5's story. Takeuchi was finally playing heavy on the ChrisxJill angle, Wesker was back, brownfu. It kept me entertained.
But the gameplay was shit (I cannot tell you how many times I fucking died because they were too lazy to implement move'n'shoot), the setting of it all screamed action game not survival horror or even horror, and is was the dawn of even more action-esque RE games which i'm not cool with either. It should be down in the 3 star tier, RE6 should be in the 1 star tier.

Man it's the exact opposite for me.
Story was predictable and mediocre but the gameplay was awesome. Once my bro and I finished the story we played the ever-living shit out of Mercenaries trying to SS all the stages.
System in terms of co=op was way better than 5. 6 too kaway being able to melee off of your partner's shots even though it kept melee combos. Really sucked.

It doesn't matter. The CV knife has pants on head retarded damage, it seems to be even more than RE4's knife. It also knocks down REALLY easily too.

In 3 you can craft shit. The more you craft ammo the more you get per gunpowder bottle. You can completely forget about the pistol because of the competition 1911 (Eagle 5.0 or something like that, a Nemesis drop) not only fires faster than the Samurai Edge, it also has a much higher headshot multiplier. That said you should never ever ever craft handgun ammo save for maybe the first Nemesis encounters, after that you save that shit for shotgun ammo (A+A+B gunpowder = shotgun ammo), grenades, magnum ammo.

I found it lackluster compared to RE1 and RE2. It's setting isn't as memorable as RE1's. It's monsters are very forgettable and even close to RE2's. I mean there's a reason why no one cares about any of them but Nemesis. The supporting cast was one of the shittiest. Like really bad. Really the only thing I liked about it was Jill and Nemesis. Well, i disagree with all that. I liked Jill and Carlos and most enemies were also in RE2 so there's that. I think you're severely downplaying the resource management part. Sure, on replay it isn't as much an issue, but first time with the first games it *was* part of the appeal of the genre. You felt pressured and in need.
That's one of the things RE4 basically removed that irked some of us purists (and I'm not saying RE4 is a bad game, but it went other directions as far as game design is concerned).
You may argue part of the reason the orignal games were the way they were was due to technical limitations, and it's a fair point, and true to some respects. But still, because it they did things that weren't really replicated in following games (I kinda like the mulitplayer attempt with each player having a set of tools/skills, name eludes me).

For an old RE fan? Not really. It's a better sequel to RE4 than 5 and 6 were though.

It a good Action Horror game with great atmosphere. Just use your stat building wisely. Otherwise the game can be really difficult. Play smart and learn all the little tricks that the gameplay is hiding, like using matches correctly. It's not like RE4 where you can just run in and gun motherfuckers down, because you'll run out of ammo pretty fast. So play it much slower and think about what you can use to your advantage. Also, it's pretty cool seeing all the little Resident Evil homages and great monster designs.
