I'm entirely disappointed it's still there with DaS3. I wish it was entirely done away with and Estus/Healing/Consumable animations punishable from any angle to make up for it. It would also mean those legitimate backstabs when an opponent isn't paying attention at all or is trying run away, but I'd say the quality of PvP would be all the more better. Sorcery and Hexes could also be fucking hit as hard as Faith like in Dark Souls 2, but we all know that shit ain't gonna fly.
But the drake sword is actually good, at least for the first levels.

I played a Str/Faith character in DS2 and I think the faith nerf was somewhat justified. My character was an overpowered faggot who could do 600+ damage with one hand. I just wish Hexes were hit as hard so that it would feel fair.

The latter especially, as unlike the Drake Sword, you're guaranteed to get it in Sen's Fortress.
The reason they're bad weapons is because neither of them scale. So they encourage the player to dump all levelups into VIT and END. By the time those weapons stop being effective, the player's build is now completely fucking worthless, as they can't actually use any other weapon properly.
And so, their playthrough is ruined.

Dodging is one way, you can also wear Stone Armour and use the crest shield to block those huge magic blasts.
As for damage if you're SL 1 you're a Pyromancer so you got souls to spend maxing it out, Great Combustion does good damage. You can also keep hitting a King as it's dying to continue draining the life bar.

Watching an SL1 do the boss, he doesn't seem to have much trouble, most of the attacks do little damage and he survives the bullshit attack enough to heal. The issue is he obviously played through the entire game as he has Havel's set and a few fire keeper souls, so a rush job might not find it quite so easy. But then if it's just for twinking you can be a fair bit higher than sl1.
