My only advice is don't start playing at times where you're stressed or bummed out, that game is a rough experience - not nearly enough polish to remove the frustrating aspects.

Let's say the game is the definition of 5/10 but with 7/10 moments, some areas are very nice to explore and look at, the combat/gmeplay is easily the best part of the game, using chakrams with greatswords or greathammers with staves is fun as fuck and some of the abilities/skills, actually all of them are fun to use and the look nice too. Story and NPCs is meh at best and character model is meh too, but the way the armor combine on your character is very well done imo.
But if you plan on playing, go for the hard mode and don't use any kind of potion that gives you resistances, power or something like that, don't craft your won items and don't use the special mode/reckoning mode often, otherwise the game will be so fucking easy that it will be sad.
You can try to look for the YSA mod too, it's a mod that changes the game to make it more challenging, i've never used because i'm fucking lazy.

Yea, I played WoW for a bit, I stopped before cata though. Always have fond memories of it though, I think everyone remembers their first trip from silvermoon to ironforge. Or their first run through the wailing caverns. I mean it was an average game, but there was something special about the world.

You could try getting the "Roleplayers Alternative Start" mod and go through a run as that character - I still love picking up a new game with that every now and then.

Honestly a lot of it probably comes down to the stuff added/removed between systems.
I don't know yet, but I should probably play something as I have been flailing around with my attempts at programming all day. It's not a bad game by all means. The overworld is stunning. However, I'm the type of guy that needs the feel of a journey in an jrpg. I'm missing that in X because you always return to NLA. Also a solid story doesen't hurt. The story in X is pretty corny, even for an JRPG.

It's worth it. If you like the first one the second aims a bit at a more "run and gun" feel but the gameplay is even better, they improved a lot over 1, and while they toned down the horror they went more toward a psychological horror which worked out very well and figured out a balance between the action they want and the little horror they do have.
