This gen had what were basically shitty prebuilts instead of any attempt at specialization or optimization. The base hardware is slipshod and it shows in the graphics.
We'll plateau the entire gen as bullshots hit a new level.

It's something that's mainly been achievable due to the infrastructure of the new console hardware.

>new consoles are basically rebranded PCs
It was clear this would happen. In the days of yore developers were expected to optimise their shit for the console's hardware. Once the 360 hit the market they started getting sloppier, which is why PC ports back then were of horrendous quality.
What they do now is essentially just scale back the PC version's textures/polycount and mint that on a console disc (usually with half the data missing so they can save a buck on having to buy dual layer BD-ROMs; necessitated only because "fuck compression").
