Did censorship of any Japanese video affect you personally? I.e. was any removed content from any game something you specifically wanted to stay in said game?

Or do you just oppose censorship in principle? (Which is completely fine, I'm for that too.)

Also, why don't you learn Japanese and avoid censhorship altogether?

Not censorship but not having all the girls is DoAX3 killed it for me. No Tina no buy.
>>
>>320926634
I hate censorship when it's not appropriate, but on a personal level, no censorship has bothered me that much. I mean making a cow tits waifu in XCX, uncut dialogue from a bunch of localized games over the years and DOAX3 not coming to the west sucks and all, but I don't care enough to complain. So long as the game itself is still enjoyable in the end I'll bend over and take it.
Also is that Gods Eater 2? When that shit coming to the west, nigga?

>why don't you learn Japanese and avoid censhorship altogether?
>why don't you spend years of your life acquiring a skill you otherwise wouldn't want or need, just to make up for people arbitrarily robbing you of content, instead of just, you know, trying to make them not rob you?

That's a very very nice consumer way of looking at things. Schlomo will be proud of you, anon.
>>

>>
>>320926634
I have no problems with small adjustments that gets shit released. I only have problems with large removals of content are simply gone. I don't want to miss out on games entirely because nobody wants to take a chance on something risky, especially if it's just a really minor thing.

The FF4 porno book always amused me to read about as a story, but the lack of it never ruined the game. If the game stayed overseas it would be a very long time before I ever discovered RPGs.

Name one censored game that had tits and ass all over the screen before the changes?
Xenoblade and Fatal Frame are certainly not examples of that.
The changes were trivial and mundane.

It has heavily affected me as a result now that I know about it.

I just don't understand why they don't just have options? If you're some prude or you have little kids around or some shit just toggle the shit off.

I did the switch to unlocalized games though I can't recall playing anything with censorship before that.

Censorship has always been a problem, because it either censored significant aspects of games(like DEATH for instance), or minor things that aren't even worth censoring in the first place. Even the weeaboo shit that comes from Compile Heart and co. deserve better.

I think people are pretty stupid for caring about violence or nudity of non-existing 3D characters. You don't see PETA the whole time complaining about Cabella series but you see raging faggots crying because jiggling boobs/butts in games the whole time

I oppose it in principle. Unless it's a case of censorship to fit ratings, like SFV or old cases like NGS2. That sucks and those are made for commercial reason and trying to reach WIDER AUDIENCES, but it's not as bad as censoring to not trigger anyone.

It did effect lately, I planned to buy a WiiU, now I won't. Pic related

I'm learning. I read a whole VN this week fully in nip so I'm pretty close. But I still need lot of dictionary checking. But that doesn't really solve the problem, I want peoples to experience the same game as me.

>>
>>320929201
If the creators of a piece of work meant for the viewers to see it in a certain light... then censoring it only harms that piece of work. Censoring it will no longer let viewers see it in the light the creators wanted you to see it as. You're changing it so it will be seen the way you wanted it to be seen and not the creator of the work.
>>

Censorship of an anime bust killed my mother and censorship of a loli in bikini puked in my car and the smell has never gone away.
>>
Principle. Censorship is an all-or-nothing game. I don't particularly care about a lewd outfit that got removed from this game or that, however once it becomes okay to censor something, then it doesn't stop. With the power of precedence anything can become worthy of censorship, and someone's making moral judgements on what the rest of us can and cannot consume.

I don't let it be my sole guiding principle when choosing to purchase a game but it does factor in. And it does motivate me to keep up my Japanese practice.
>>

>censorship of a loli in bikini

>>320930475
We can't know for SFV, but it was true for Ninja Gaiden 2, the sigma version was all censored because they wanted to give a ninja decapitation game a 16+ rating instead of the 18+ one.

>>
>>320929174
Then please play different games.

If you do not want T&A, there are many games that do not have T&A. They shouldn't be removed just to meet cultural standards and the fact you don't care for them doesn't make the fact they're removed okay. If the original product does not appeal to you then simply play something else.

Also putting things in quotation marks doesn't stop them being an actual thing that people can be concerned with.

On principle, mostly.

The only game I really care about that's been censored is Kingdom Hearts II (the censorship was also carried into Final Mix in 2.5).

To my knowledge it's the only KH game that was censored, which bothers me both on the principle and in regards to consistency.

>why don't you learn Japanese and avoid censhorship altogether?

Yes, bakumatsu setting. I've read the trial and liked it a lot, so I preordered. Pretty hard Japanese though. Historical vocabulary, kanji and grammar.

Akihabara on release day is pretty hectic. Just as new games get released, preorders open for new future titles. Before Softmap or Trader stores you can see くじ引き stands for people who buy new eroge or preorder upcoming ones. Eroge floors are pretty crowded. Last months I was preordering まいてつ and had to wait like 10 minutes in line.

>ive been at it for around a year.
That's curious. How much do you have too look up when you read?
>>
>>320931918
Yeah, the actual content of the threads aren't so great, but I think the thought that other people on 4chan are also learning moon probably helped motivate people. And the pastebin is always good to point people towards if they show interest in learning (it at least gives them a starting point, when a lot of the posts I see are "I don't know where to start").
>>
>>320932035
I just worry that all the extra moonreaders - especially since so many seem to be better and more inwardly motivated (I have serious trouble learning anything outside a classroom with this) - are going to snap up my (extremely small and vague) hope of being a translator. It seems like all I could possibly do at this point but I'm not even good enough.

Also, since when a game company worked closely with ESRB?

Also

>Several female characters are depicted in low-cut, form-fitting outfits that display large amounts of cleavage and/or buttocks. Female characters' breasts sometimes jiggle during character selection.
>The words “a*s” and “bastard” appear in the dialogue.

ESRB rated the demo as T even with all these shit.
A simple, occasional camera angle won't do jack shit to the rating.

Yeah, strictly speaking it's a banal spectacle. People standing in lines.

I mostly like it because for me it's a new way to engage with eroge. All these years before, I just read about eroge on the internet or eroge itself on PC screen. And things on the PC screen fell less real than those outside, at least for me. So going to Akihabara on eroge release day, buying eroge magazines (strictly speaking a pointless purchase, all the info will be on the internet soon anyway) or attending eroge events makes it all feel way more real for me.

On one such even I had the great fortune to see the writer of one of my favorite VNs, which was great too.

Nah, man. It's clearly the ESRB.

I can't believe there are those that actually believe clear lies like that.

エエ? いつから/v/はそ何に日本語を上手ですか?

Such flatness should clearly be outlawed.

I'm no expert, but maybe this is what you meant to say.
いつから/v/はそんなに日本語上手になったの?

>Bob D comes by and says "Wow Bob A and Bob C are equally as bad in this situation"
You do realize in reality Bob A is saying that, right?
>>
>>320930463
PETA does some crazy shit but they tend to put down a lot of animals they take in because those tend to be abused animals that cannot be adopted.
>>
>>320936446
Yup, thats it. I need more practice in sentence structure.
>>

「日本語」と「上手」の間に「が」いらないか?

Bob A is saying Bob A is as bad as Bob C?
What sense does that make?

Not really but it shouldn't be a big deal. But I'm abig boy and I can handle weird stuff from Japan without needing to change it to better placate the attitudes of the west. I know I'm not going to get a 100% translation all the time but when the people responsible for translating this stuff outright lie to me then yeah I get annoyed
>>
No jap audio actually affects me. When anime, you either go full anime or bust.

Looking at you Xenoblade X. Thankfully 5.5 will come out sometime so I can play the undub.
>>
>>320936808
Properly you would, but I was typing conversationally. And you probably shouldn't use the question particle か if you're not using polite speech otherwise.
>>
>>320936565
All animals can become normal again, just takes time and dedication. PETA's definition of animals that can't be adopted is messed up.

The ESRB is arbitrary under the best of circumstances. It's likely that the random people they select to give games ratings would be harder on a (relatively) better known series like Street Fighter than obscure JRPGs like Fairy Fencer or Sword Art Online or new properties like Skullgirls.
>>
>>320938671
Many have emailed the ESRB asking if x game would be censored in its original form or receive a different rating. Every time, the response has been that nothing would need to be changed to receive the same rating it got anyway. I'm sure someone has the caps.
>>
I haven't really seen any censorship that would make me not buy a product. While I don't really care about cosmetic changes, I think it's kinda stupid to censor something if it's a T or higher rated game.
Censoring teenage girls is something I think is perfectly reasonable. Not like people would desperately want a 13yearold in a bikini as opposed to shorts.
Removing gameplay mechanics is where I would start getting mad.

Yakuza 3.
>>
>>320940358
>Censoring teenage girls is something I think is perfectly reasonable
I disagree. While I do not personally care for the content in question, I don't think it should be censored. If it were in the game, people offended by it could simply not use the costume.
>>
>>320940697
I think they want to attract less attention to the sketchy issue and avoid making the larger audience uncomfortable.
Like in xenoblade, when you're scrolling through customes for the 13year old and suddenly you see her half naked, it would make some people uncomfortable and be used for others to criticize the game for pedophilic elements.

It's not the perfect system, nor the fairest, but they try to work with what they got.
>>
>>320932671
The original psp one is called Gods Eater.
>>
>>320940415
Was that really censorship, though? I've always pegged it as monumental laziness and a total lack of confidence in a product.
>>
>>320936214
So they made it safe for epileptics, and you're complaining about that?
>>
>>320941576
>monumental laziness and a total lack of confidence in a product

Excuse.
>>
>>320926634
I just think censorship is bad on all forms. Especially when forced upon by a group of people onto another group of people in any method possible.

Everyone has the right to express themselves and to be free from silence no matter how offensive it is to others. This is our God-given right.
>>
>>320941647
What I mean is, I don't think it was done for fear of offending anyone, rather because it meant less work and therefore less cost for content that normalfag Westerns wouldn't care about anyway.. Unless there's any interviews or whatever where they said it was because of that.
>>
I don't want to pay for the added costs of importing. Also I lost my copy of my japanese coach.
