ITT: Indie games that deserve a sequel
>>
>>320885605
They're waiting for some more memes to throw in before they start development.
>>
Guacamaymay is actually a damn good game. Why are there so few mexican mythology games?
>>
>>320885686

I want the 'meme' meme to die.
>>
>>320885739
build wall pedro
>>
My only question is what else would they do with it?

They already covered the most colorful and interesting parts of Mexican mythology, and the story itself wrapped up pretty well.
>>
>>320885751
You're not seriously implying it didn't have memes, are you? Because that's demonstrably untrue.
>>
>>320885739
It's basically this and Grim Fandango. There was a AAA lucha libre game, but it was apparently very bad.
>>
>>320886296

The amount of memes it had, compared to the amount of shitposting over it, was literally insignificant.

Outside of the first hub town, there aren't any memes to be found unless you start making memetic references to the writing, and even when you take into account the first hub town, the memes are background noise that nobody is intently watching.
>>
>>320886164
Honestly this.
Unless some other big bad shows up, you can't really do much else with the world.
Especially with Juan and Tostada

>They're waiting for some more memes to throw in before they start development.

Here's the funny thing

They went on to say they regretted putting all those memes after launching the game because the only thing anyone ever talks about are the memes and not the game itself.

It all came from a staff member who was really into this shit and convinced the rest of the team to shove it in.

It's incredibly sad because I really wanted to talk about this game when it launched but every single Guacamelee thread maxed out with people arguing about how memes are so shit.

Very rarely did anyone actually bring up gameplay, and when they did, it was flat out incorrect.
>>
>>320887253
I just realized that any kind of discussion is impossible on /v/ like gucamelee was fun, and everybody kind of agrees. I mean beyond it being like Mexican metroid what is there to say? /v/ needs shitpost because discussion about videogames is kind of pointless.

I've spent about five and a half hours playing the game (lost interest during what I assume to be the final or penultimate level) and unless the player earns some seriously game-changing abilities near the end, the gameplay is nothing to write home about.
>>
>>320886703
It's the mix of christian and indigenous culture.
>>
>>320887253
The really crappy part is that the game has a really cool and distinct thing going for it with the art style and mix of lucha libre/mexican mythology, and those memes feel really forced and out of place. Internet memes are the equivalent of shallow disposable pop music. Inserting that stuff into works makes it feel dated as fuck in the long run.
>>
>>320887589
The game BARELY had any exploration elements. It was very nearly totally linear.
>>
>>320887941
You could honestly just edit out most the meme billboards and the game would be fly as fuck, as it doesn't even use the image macros for anything important
>>
>>320887940
What a pretentious answer. Luchadors are cool because they wear masks and kick ass.
>>
>>320888035
Sadly that is mostly the case with most of indie """metroidvania"""

Is this game really that good? I liked Mutant Blobs Attack a lot more than I expected to but I've grown skeptical of indie metroidvanias...

who bitched? I'd bet on whoever it was is more of an SJW than they are an average hispanic. Your average mexican loves shit like Guacamelee. I worked with a shit ton of mexicans in a warehouse while I was going to college and they all thought Speedy Gonzalez was awesome.

Probably the same dumb white washed mother fucker who thought Luis was offensive to Mexicans.

I don't know of a single beaner who didn't find Luis to be the tightest shit ever.

>Cool setting
>Nice characters
>Retarded memes everywhere
>Terrible dialogs, so bad that my normalfag friends had to skip them and he usually never do that
>Gameplay is decent but gets old pretty fast
>Nice puzzle rooms
>Cake walk from start to finish
People talk about the memes because it's the only thing that stands out
>>
>>320889160
>>320889292
This. The only people who complain about shit like this, and more specifically use phrases like "cultural appropriation," are white Americans. My mom is from Guadalajara, and barely speaks a word of English, and although she hasn't seen anything of Guacamelee, she'd probably get a kick out of it because she grew up watching Blue Demon movies; she did watch me playing Grim Fandango when I was younger, and she thought the art was fantastic.
>>
Seems OP didn't get the memo that nothing with "melee" in the title ever deserved a sequel
>>
>>320889009
if you're looking for exploration and secrets this may not be your best bet, but it has some nice level design and some excellent free form comboing, and the exploration skills also serve to add to your arsenal of moves which is especially nice
>>
I thought the game was pretty good, i played it with my lady friend, and we both enjoyed it. Certain elements could've have a little better explanation like the flipping of the world, or you, the individual. It was still pretty excellent overall. The memes were really only present in one area, and after that area it was back to suplexing and kicking skeletons across the screen.
>>
>>320889009
Yes. It's actually beat em up arena with Metroid-like progression. The platforming is really challenging though, like SMB level of challenging.
>>
>>320889636
god hes fucking intolerable
>yeh man i wan to be a bed-ass know what im sayin ese
>ye man look at me in a bed-ass suit im a secret aaygent man
fucking idiot. he didnt deserve a spot in Ant Man. Praying he wont come back in AM&W
>>
>>320890236

Fuck off cracker
>>
>>320890215
>like SMB level of challenging.
Not really, the difficulty only picks up in the last 10% of the game and for some secrets

ghost world shenanigans like your pic were fun though
>>
>>320890215
>The platforming is really challenging though, like SMB level of challenging.

You posted the only meatboy tier section in the entire game.
>>
>>320885605

Good game. I liked the gameplay but the humor was really weak. They went overboard with the memes and video game references. Having all the extra characters behind a pay wall also sucked. No replay value because of this.
>>
>>320890215
>like SMB level of challenging
Not even close. I actually 100% finished Guacamelee, while I got frustrated with and ultimately quit playing Super Meat Boy.

Yeah man those billboards totally ruined the experience, am i right?

Because the world took itself so seriously without them.

GTFO with that shit. It's 2015 for crying out loud.
>>
>>320890215
Only Super Meat Boyish in small parts. Most of it is simple Metroidy platforming mixed with fun combat.
>>
I really liked Perspective and would play a sequel to that if they can make one.
>>
I have a feeling I should play Axiom Verge
>>
>>320891467
It's really good.
>>
I was just playing this game yesterday. I had put it off after /v/ telling me it was garbage. Despite all the meme faggotry, the game is surprisingly good and one of the best platformers I've played in a long time. I don't know why I listen to you niggers?
>>
>>320891859
Most of /v/ praises it, you just took the opinion of a faggot or two.
>>
>>320891859
/v/ hates the memes
never talked shit on it otherwise
>>
>>320890976
my nigga

that game was great
>>
>>320892005

After 3 years of it being out, and even then it's a minority.

/v/ pretty much hated this game at launch.
>>
>>320889292

1st gen Mexicanfag here. A lot of the people that I see that complain about these kind of shit are 3rd, 4th gen chicanos that want to get politically active in their culture. Most mexicans don't give a shit and if anything they like it.

ive actually never have seen anyone shit talk the game other than the memes

kinda surprising, and nice considering the game is worth the praise
>>
>>320892279
>/v/ pretty much hated this game at launch.
Actually, you're right. It's all coming back to me. Everyone just kept posting screenshots of the memes and getting /v/ to hate. Then a few sales later when people actually, you know, played the fucking game, it started to become praised.

I remember Portal 2 being shat all over by /v/ too, cherrypicking Wheatley scenes and convincing everyone he was annoying and even saying shit like it was shorter than Portal 1.

I know it happens a lot, but those are the biggest two examples I can think of.
>>
>>320892568
to be fair portal 2 was no where near as good as 1
most of portal 2 felt super try hard
>>
>>320885605
Undermeme is it's spiritual successor. It has all the memes from quacamelee like rage face and doge.
>>
>>320892005
>>320892419

Yeah I don't play as much vydia as I used to and don't come here often. I saw a thread about the game and a lot of users were shitting on it on that specific thread.
