I can't understand how Finn could kill his comrades so easily, one of the reasons for his defection besides the villagers getting killed and the fact they were going to find out he didn't fire his weapon during said massacre was that the Stormtrooper who wiped his blood on his helmet was one of his closest friends. You know that it was well established in the EU that learning to pilot Imperial ships was part of the training for elite squadrons like Black squadron. Partially because they usually get sent on commando/intelligence missions. The whole Rogue and Wraith Squadron novels were about that. Hell the point of Wraith Squadron was to be a commando team first, pilot squadron second because Wedge Antillies got annoyed that Rogue was doing so many spec ops missions instead of piloting.
That being said it didn't seem like anyone in the writing team knew anything about the EU so who knows their justification. Not that it would be hard to given that Imperial simulators would be in New Republic hands by that point.

I agree with this, it's a Star Wars movie after all, but it's not his disloyalty that bugs me it's how he kills all he's ever known, basically his family, so unflinchingly. But as you said he's not the main character and it would be too complex.
