The story in this one is just plain awful.
It's still fun, but I don't give a shit about any of the characters or their motives. Franklin could have been GOAT if he could have stuck with the making money goal (classic GTA protag) instead of being the white man's fuccboi to do it. They keep making GTA more realistic while making the cops even more unrealistic. This is a weird juxtaposition which just feels odd. Like in GTAV you escape the cops by hiding in a tunnel for 2 minutes. In that heist escape you get away on a train, even though the train only ever travels in a big circle and the whole damn army is after you. Everyone knows you're on the train, and where could it go? Why don't the cops order the train to stop?

I had the same issue with GTA IV. San Andreas on the other hand kept me engrossed from start to finish but maybe that's just because I was younger.

I liked 5. Story was silly, but at least the direction they went with the series is right, they didn't get more into the whole "realism" thingy which made gta4 fucking shit. Online is nice, Single player is okay, but doesn't offer much to do after the main story. But the game was fun.
But i might be wrong cause i seem to be the only one on that board that thinks VC is better than SA.
My opinion is
2 > VC > 5 > SA > 1 > 3 > 4
But the gap is not that big between any of them.

The setting has to be both a time and a place that has a rich history. Liberty City and Vice City were both true to their inspirations, New York City and Miami respectively. For me it never really picked up. It always felt like it was just about to, they were going to get into a bad situation and needed to scramble, but then it just petered out. Most GTAs have a dead spot where there's no real plot motivation somewhere around the middle, but this one is just a big hole. None of the characters really make it worth playing through, either.

The main reason modern GTA is boring is because Rockstar can't seem to remember what fun is.
