Try not to let losing or getting perfected discourage you. Losing in fighting games is natural and happens to everybody. That said, I enjoy even matches as well. If you want more even fights you can always ask them to play some character they aren't familiar with. Aside from that you could ask particular players who you think are evenly matched with you to move to another station for more games. From experience people here tend to just join lobbies when search IDs are posted because they want to play with other people from the thread, regardless if they are beginners or not.
Keep on playing and if you find yourself struggling against a particular player ask them for some advice on what you could do better.

Well, there is no real definition of beginner.
I have like 25 hours in Xrd but also have hundreds of hours in Melty Blood, sfiv and some casual experience with #Reload (like 10 years ago).
My combos are far from being optimal, oki is predictable, and sometimes I burst at stupid times or forget to FD/blitz shield. But poking game still carries me against strong players. Guess this qualifies for "beginner"?

To the veteran players: Have you ever felt like the better you get at GG, the harder it is to win?
Recently I've been getting shit on by a bunch of different players. I'm not too down about that because they were all great players, much better than me, but I feel like I haven't been able to improve myself as much as I used too.
I play Slayer and am having a really hard time against players that actually know how to block/keep him away/hard pressure him in the corner due to no good reversals (Venom, Faust, Elph, etc.).
Basically what I'm saying is I'm not good enough as a player to make up for my characters flaws. How do I "git gudder" other than picking a "better character"? I've been playing for around 4-5 months.

How the fuck do you execute jump cancelling?
I'm doing a challenge with Millia which requires me to do a jumping dust followed by a jump cancelling into an air dash, but the fucking dust animation takes forever and even though I'm spamming the directional arrow, no jump cancelling happens.
Am I supposed to jump again and then dash whilst the animation is playing or what?

Ky's the greatest. I'm probably sticking to him, having an answer to every situation is the kind of game I want to play.

You need to have little respect for your opponent and know that you are going to have to take some risks to keep your opponent honest.
Ensure that when you connect opponent with a note, you approach them. If you do not, play around the space you are given. She is not particularly great navigating the space but you will get used to the hoverdash and all that over time.
Unless you have meter or good space, keep combos short so you can retain pressure. Short combos to HCL or 6P > 5H > JC > 9jH > Note is a standard combo that, against most normie characters, will ensure the note will hit 5 times against your opponent on wake up.
Practice the combos against *every* character. There is not one go-to high damage combo for all characters. Venom and Ky can be tricky, Sol you have to change a couple of the buttons and Leo is classified as huge so you can get some good stuff on him (webm related).
Know the difference between a high hit and a low hit as you will be doing different combos for both.
There are some other things but they are a touch advanced and would take ages to go through (IAD combos, j.D FDC, cross-up shenanigans, IAD VCL mix-ups, etc - j.D FDC is pretty hard and if you flop it say goodbye to burst if you still have it).

Get note oki. Seriously though, get note oki! I-No thrives on high low mixups so use your note to keep them in place after a knockdown and hover dash K, K > S, K > S > D, empty into throw, whatever. mix it up and keep them guessing. I-No is really hard to block against since it's really hard to tell how many high hits she'll throw out.
Your 6P is a really useful tool and is used in almost all your combos as well as being a universal anti air. 5K and 2S are ok pokes and your 2D has deceptively long range. Also, throwing out horizontal Chemical Love can catch new players off guard since it reaches so far and can be YRCed to make it safe or follow up if it hits.

As for his crouching HS:
1+HS hits right in front of you
2+HS hits in the middle of the screen
3+HS hits next to the opposite end of the screen
1HS can be useful in combos and 3HS is nice for hitting opponents who are keeping their distance as an alternative to head throws.

I don't remember exactly what 33 and 34 are, but I remember most of the combos in the 30+ challenges to be too situational to be very useful, too complicated to be worth the trouble, and occasionally too meter heavy for me to ever want to bother. You'll be fine as long as you can do the rest consistently.
Outside of lobbies that form here, I haven't been able to really play with anyone online. I never see anyone in ranked to fight, only 2 lobbies pop up all the time when I search player match that are locked, and nobody ever joins my lobbies, even 10+ mins after their creation. So I've been learning Slayer and having a blast playing him. Got some decent combo's down but i've been reading up on him and see that a big part of doing well with him is Back Dash Cancelling (BCD). Is it just backdashing and doing a move really quick or something so you get the invincible properties of the backdash along with the special?
Any way to reliably pull it off? Seems really awkward to perform in the small timeframe of the backdash.
