Serious question: Has a mainstream console ever been abandoned faster than the Wii U? 3 years is not a long lifespan for console. To give some perspective to this, the 360 is gonna outlive it and that was released in 2005.

We haven't even had any of the major 2016 releases (Star Fox, Zelda) Granted, yes, it still had a short lifespan compared to the SNES and Wii, but 4 years is pretty average for a console, especially considering the NX is likely going to launch late next year, or early 2017.

It needs to last almost another 12 months to reach that. It'll no doubt get Starfox and Zelda, but Zelda is basically confirmed to be an NX project, and Starfox wont appeal to that many people. It's an arcade shooter at heart, which might last 3 hours.

Dreamcast had one of the best launch lineups ever and while was missing support from some big name developers it received continued support (especially by Capcom) until it's death. Wii U had a shit launch lineup and horrible software droughts until 2014 when it was somewhat viable.
