I can't really put my finger on it, but it felt too contrived, I didn't like the gameplay, and the overall gloomy atmosphere (and usually I love atmospheric vidya). I can definatly see why people like it though.

The gameplay IS repetitive, just a bunch of loosely interlocked puzzles. I can definitely see how completing the game, which is super easy if you don't care to save all the Mudokuns, can turn someone off.

Fine, replace Minecraft with any of my other honorable mentions: Vagrant Story, Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, Zelda OoT, Zelda TP, USF IV.
Portal however: that stands, that is truly a perfect game, not too long, great fun, pretty clever, and awesome final boss.
