The Dark Cloud games also have moments sort of like that, where you can accidentally upgrade your weapon to an early dead end on the upgrade tree. But at least then you can always break it down and fuse it to another weapon to salvage some of the stats. Still forces you to do a lot more grinding than you otherwise would've though.

That's just every Souls game except for maybe Dark Souls 1. Weapon upgrades do make a difference but your armour barely matters except for status resistances. Especially in Bloodborne where it's almost all sidegrades that just resist different things.
The first Dark Souls is debatable because upgrading your armour can actually make a pretty huge difference in the damage you take.

Except she isn't outclassed at all. Ranged characters are better across the board than melee if you stay on top of their weapon upgrades, and as a ranged character she's better than Ruby and equal to Osmond when both have their top-tier weapons.

I can sincerely tell you ZZ gets better. It starts off so slow and boring but it starts picking up after they get to Earth, and Africa is some honestly good shit. Then it stays good for a while before dropping back down a few episodes before the end. It's probably my least favorite out of the series I've seen (I've watched from 0079 to F91) but it has its moments and a good streak on Earth.

It's about Char's awakening newtype powers as well, she was in many ways guiding him through that. Without her he was lost, unlike Amuro. Who continued and achieved Satori (In crude terms think of it a kind of enlightenment, understanding in Japanese Buddhism).
