I can't remember correctly, but Tenchi Universe has two movies that are alright but they are basically the same story. There's a stand alone movie called Daughter of Darkness too. Just so you know there are three main continuities of Tenchi Muyo as far as the animes go: Ryo-Ohki, Universe (TV in Japan), and Tenchi and Tokyo (no one liked this one very much).

Depends on the continuity.
In Ryo-Ohko (the original OVA series and the continuity the manga is based off of) he ends up marrying everyone because Tenchi is literally the creator of all the universes. Though Ryoko is his first wife and the bearer of his first child. But the manga has gone on for so long it isn't even about Tenchi anymore.
In Universe it's a pretty cut clean Ryoko win, the ending of the anime itself and the ending of the movies pretty much confirm it.

The third OVAs problem was that it heavily required the watcher to have read the Tenchi novels before hand. When it came out the novels were not even available outside of Japan, so it had heavy backlash. In the Ryo-Ohki continuity only, Tenchi is basically the creator of all life and dimensions (there are numerous dimensions). Though of course he does not realize this. This is why Tenchi is able to generate Light Hawk Wings, though his power is still new so he can only generate 3 at a time. In the 3rd OVA shit goes down, and Tenchi is nearly killed if I recall. It's the same thing with PC games today. It used to be that every game you purchased was exciting and meant something before steam, but now games are cheap and plentiful as hell on steam to the point that all the excitement is gone and it's a chore to sort through all the sales for anything decent.
For anime at least I find that I can recapture that feeling of excitement that comes from a limited selection by watching whatever dubbed anime they decide to put on netflix. It doesn't even matter if the show is mediocre; it just feels more special knowing something new got put on there.

Animators could make a show just like the stuff in the 80s and 90s if they had the time to do it. But they no longer have the ability to focus on one show over a year. Now they have to make 5+ shows in the same amount of time.
The person who is in charge of direction and art direction also matters a lot. KyoAni is king of animation quality...but sucks at story development.

Asking if Tenchi is good is like asking whether Star Wars had an impact on the world or not.
Tenchi Muyo pioneered the harem genre by not only creating the standards but exceeding them as well. There is literally no reason not to watch Tenchi in some form, whether it be Universe, the OVAs (the third doesn't fucking exist) or even Tenchi in Tokyo. I'll be the odd man out and say I liked Tenchi in Tokyo even though it obviously wasn't as good as the first two series.
