What's a good console for me and my mother? We're both relatively poor and haven't had good family bonding time in a long time and I use PC so I don't really know what kinds of games are on which consoles that would be good for my mom. Last time I had a console it was PS2 so I'm behind.
Furthermore her knees are bad and she's had a lot of cancer so I don't see her doing DDR or movement games.

You can make a really cheap PC that can play modern games, and you can emulate old games too if you want to try some console classics. See above link for an example.

Do you not have any old console? If you have for example a 360 I just bought the adapter and already had a bunch of controllers ready for PC local multiplayer. Or if you have a GC/Wii you can buy the Wii U controller adapter and use it on PC.

OP, sadly local multiplayer games are dying. Most of the big console exclusives are one-player or online-only. The only ones that still do local multiplayer are fighting games, indie/smaller studio games, and Nintendo.
For the first two, you could just get a couple of 360 controllers and a long HDMI cable for your PC. All the local MP console games usually end up on PC anyway. But if you're really set on getting a console, the Wii U or Wii are your best options.

Games are cheaper, and the online is free. It ends up evening out. Not trying to be a shitposting mustard or anything, but it does even out over time despite the higher initial investment.
Also, fuck the people who try to nitpick PC build prices with things like monitors. That's like counting your $800 HDTV along with your $300 console bundle.

Honestly? If you can only buy one console in existence, I'd recommend the PS2. In my opinion, it has the single best library of games out of any console, past or present. You're certain to find some games you'll like no matter who you are or what you're interested in. It's also backwards compatible with the PS1, which is itself a great all-purpose console.
Also, while I don't know the specifics, my understanding is that the PS2 can be softmodded to play ISO images. So if money is *really* tight, you could grab some ISOs off the Internet (which are readily available) and play whatever you want. Maybe someone else can elaborate on that.
