The original DS version is incredibly slow, and the balance is kind of wonky from the NES version just because of the enemy limit (less enemies per battle, so they all got buffed), but it's a pretty neat game either way.
I'd recommend the PSP or one of the other ports just for the double speed auto-battle, though. The DS version is extremely slow.

Attrition/Frontier Defense is instant matchmaking, tons of people still playing it thanks to the recent sale and GameTime free trial.
Other modes are real fuckin Nito undead. But Titanfall is so fucking clutch that I try to shill it all the time, such an enjoyable game. It tried to splice the verticality and speed of Unreal Tournament with modern FPS nuances, and did so beautifully, while adding giant fucking mechs.

You're in for a bad time. Lightning Returns is an incoherent mess of a game. You'll spend the first 10 minutes learning the basics, and the next couple hours doing BORING as fuck sidequests for people who never show back up in the game. You need to actively avoid fighting, since there's NO REASON TO GRIND AT ALL...and it wastes time.
Think the story will finally make ff13-2 and ff13 make sense? No fucking luck. You do all this stuff for the god "just cuz". What motivation do you have to finish the game? Do you really care about Serah? That's too bad since it's all pointless.
