It lets the world of Bloodborne have it's own kind of identity rather than just being a homage to something else. Use sword form and backstabs. When he does the jump attack, predict where he will land and lock on. You should have enough time to backstab him. Simon's bowblade is like a one handed hunter axe in that it can spin to win backstab at long distances. Its a superior weapon in terms of charge attack because of this.
On the second phase, its the same deal, but predict where he will land when he does the very high jump that he does twice a row (similar to the high jump move where he throws all the red juice all over the place). Locking on, your bowblade may magically home in on his backside and leave him open for a backstab after he lands from a jump.
