Astro's are comfy and sound good but are pricey as fuck

Ur better off getting a nice set of headphones and a desktop mic, if you have a best buy with a magnolia nearby that's your best bet

Currently I have a pair of crossfade wireless with XL pads and a nice desktop mic from best buy that was like 15 bucks

I wouldn't buy a gaming headset.

HE-400S is fantastic for its price if its in your budget, combine with mic that clips to wire/shirt or table mic.

Sennheiser HD series also solid

ATH-M50x is also strong for lower price points. Sony MDR-V6 or >>320754328 are also solid.

>>320757924
It's not going to touch a professional mic but it's on par if not better than most headsets i've used.

>>320757774
Depends on the headphone efficiency and impedance, those DT770s have multiple models for impedance iirc. If unsure, amping safe, don't need a really expensive one, FiiO is fine.

Also note if the headphones are open/closed back
If you're using them exclusively at home for gaming, go with open. The sound stage is a hell of a lot better. The downside is that everyone around you can hear what you're listening to.
Closed back sound like ass, but don't leak any noise.

What if im looking for a gaming headset/mic.$100-$250. I have no idea what anything here is (sound stages, sound) all i know is bass becasue people talk about it to the ground
>>
>>320759616
Get $100 Headphones
Get $15 Mic
>>
>>320759616
Grab an ATH-M50x, it's in that price range.
For the mic, just make sure you don't blow more than 20 bucks on it, it's not worth paying more if you only plan to communicate.
>>
>>320759928
>>320759793
So the best plan is to get a separate mic. whats the problem say with headsets with built in mics? does it inflate the price too much? or just a case of other headsets without mics being made better?
>>
>>320760276
>does it inflate the price too much? or just a case of other headsets without mics being made better?
Both. If you want a mic always close to your mouth, get a lavalier mic.

>>
>>320760276

a headset mic and a cheap clip-on sound pretty much exactly the same

the problem is that a headset's actual listening quality typically sound much worse than any remotely decent headphones in the same price range
>>

>>320760587
thasnks im no audiophile. Currently i just have some shitty bose headset.
>>
>>320760276
>>320760379
To add, most headsets are USB which are a pain in the ass as they have to install themselves, can only be used with a pc, and are using their own tiny DAC.

Also avoid "true surround" headphones as it usually means a bunch of tiny drivers, stick to virtual surround if you absolutey must have surround.

Note that for headphones surround is wholly unnecessary unless your source audio isn't properly processing its output for stereo. You can test this for yourself by looking up a binaural recording on any decent-quality stereo headphone and note that positional cues are working fine.
>>
>>320758615
Correct, they actually got uses in places where you can't use speakers.

So? You're going to sacrifice sound quality for the sake of some faggot 13-year-olds being able to hear you slightly better?
>>
>>320761225
Amazon description will usually say, and you can almost always tell just by looking at the picture if you see a grill/mesh on the cups.

Generally open will have better separation and soundstage (hard to explain exactly the effect until you first hear a phone with it compared to one without but I'd describe it as the apparent position of different instruments becoming more apparent) but is a hard sell if you life with other people nearby a lot or want to take it on the go.
>>
>>320751687

it's no worse than the mics that come on gaming headsets
>>
>>320761750
im the pleb. so going off the name, the soundstage is a abstarct type of thing that is a base for the entire sound of the headset. or its the entire sound of the headset. All the effects of the sound, bass, etc. coming together
>>
>>320762305
From what I'm gathering it's like if the headphones are simulating an orchestra, being able to hear which direction each sound is coming from for a more "3D" sound. For gaming that could be useful for hearing sound effect direction and knowing where to look.
>>
>>320762305
Yeah in a way, just realized I worded my explanation awkwardly to begin with.

I wouldn't say headphones with less of a soundstage are technically bad, they can still sound clear it's just a matter of say if all instruments sound like they're coming from more or less the same place if you close your eyes vs some sounding like they're further back than others. Not all genres will have this matter as much, in addition some masters may be poor and lack it to begin with.
>>
>>320763434
AKA most older music.
>>
>>320761750
>but is a hard sell if you life with other people nearby
It's only an issue if you share a bedroom, which you shouldn't if you're over the age of like nine.
>>
>>320763825
College dorms, man
>>
>>320763825
Or if you ever want to take your headphones on the go. If you're only buying something for your home, an actual sound system is a much more appealing option.

>>320760989
>IEM fucks fullsized on performance in any price bracket.
