Casters typically aren't edgy, compared to assassins or death knights.
Utility/support spellcaster. Something beyond just a buff/heal machine. I really liked the Warlock in WoW. Health/soul stones, portals, controlling demons. That was pretty cool.
All the MMOs that aren't WoW are just plain awful. WoW is shit too but i'm used to the smell at this point.
Shadow Priest for WoW is my favourite class lorewise, usually I roll with a healer though.

Wakfu, I guess? It is fairly "unique" for an MMO (harvest-moon-like farming and combat similar to FFT). It runs on Java, though.
There is also Ragnarok, the english publisher have both Renewal and Classic servers available. Or you can just try some private server, or even build your own sandbox server emulator to play around with stuff and edit things.
Maple Story will get a Reborn update eventually (apparently less cash shop bullshit and more farming "to earn your stuff", but probably more RNG grinding and inevitable anti-RNG shit on cash shop).

First Ragnarok, though - I dont really know, why I loved the game so much. Pretty much endless grinding with low experience gain and low drop chances, but I spent so many hours in it and still feel that feeling inside, whenever I see the game in action.
Helped the fact that me and few friends, all around 13 years old, were all into mangoo back then and paid no attention to game limitations, only immersed deep and loved the atmosphere. "Oh my, its like in .hack!" and so on.
The only game where I actively played PvP, because it was THAT good. I dare to say that people, who never tasted conquering a castle with their guild, knows shit about MMO games.

Well, if you never ever played it before and don't feel like visiting outdated games just because they run on toasters, no.
Classic is an open-world MMO, and not very friendly to the modern MMO audience (lack of hand-holding after you complete the short tutorial, very few quests, most of them are more about unlocking stuff than getting EXP, so expect old-fashioned grinding), but it is also outdated as all fuck, and lacks basic stuff you usually see in modern MMOs (get your notepad ready and expect severe consequences for even minor misclicks).
Renewal is a embarrassing attempt to make Ragnarok more "user-friendly". The engine still is outdated as fuck, so it is a very weird mix of old and new (mostly the worse of both worlds).
You should look for newer, toaster-friendly stuff, like Elsword (Grand Chase's spiritual successor, just as shitty as GC but still somewhat enjoyable), or "old as fuck but actually got decent updates to keep it 'modern' enough'" games like Dungeon Fighter (fun little beat'em'up online that eventually becomes a break'the'game'up, since the whole point of endgame is to break the game with OP builds, and to look cute with fancy costumes).
I really like "dark" knights, but not in an edgy way I swear. Like a reverse paladin, using dark magic, heavily armored, 2H axes or swords or sword+board (although scythes are the fucking shit). My first and favourite kind was the dark knight from the Psp version of Final Fantasy Tactics.
Played a Death knight in WoW and liked the blood/frost/unholy archetypes but HATED stuff like bloodworms, zombies/ghouls (skeletons in moderation), nothing but skulls-skulls-skulls for armor, diseases. Runes, death grip, blood magic were all neat though.
Okay, quickly checked and there were indeed two Ragnarok 2 games - one, "The Gate of the World" was more or less Flyff clone and beyond shit, thus Gravity abandoned it completely and made "Legend of the Second", which was supposed to be old Ragnarok mechanics in 3D, but ended like another Flyff/WoW/Everquest clone and got plugged out in Korea due to lack of players.
No idea about NA/EU servers, probably dead too.

Thief/Rogue preferably. I'm not a huge fan of double daggers. I love Ragnarok Online's Stalker class, a PVP focused class that uses a dagger/shield combo.
Blademaster is one of my favorites aswell. A Warrior-type class that focuses on skill instead of strength.
