Is playing games at 120hz and at 144hz actually worth the price of a fucking monitor?
Been fucking around with builds to upgrade recently, and i seriously can't decide.
I hear only pratical use is for fps
There is a 144hz IPS monitor out now, but it's like $700 or something.

well consider the fact that there is only a 22 frame difference. which is a 3rd of what most monitors are now added on to double what it is now.
So take 1/3 of what your monitor is now and then add it to two of your monitors and then you should get an easily comprehensible comparison.
To put it into perspective, life happens at 60 fps and you can only see at 30fps so those monitors refresh twice as fast as life and 4 times what you can see so it's pretty well worth it.

Well, yes. There is, it's hard to explain without you seeing it yourself.
If you have unlimited funds, get Asus PG278Q ROG Swift 27 or something. It's a good monitor.
IPS gives better colours, while 144hz means you can see games smoother if your rig can push it up to 144fps.

I don't know, i'm getting a 980 ti stock occed and a i7 4970k, i'm not sure if i should bother with 120hz, even less 144hz, especially since i play at 1080p.

Yes there is a huge difference.
You will have twice the frames displayed by your monitor.
The game will seem faster and more fluid.
When you get your 120 hz monitor, open a game that lets you limit fps and limit the game to 60 fps for 10 minutes. Afterwards uncap the fps limit.
The difference is night and day especially for fps games.
I miss my 120hz monitor terribly. It's not great for most games, but for WoW I could maintain an easy 120fps. It's so much smoother.
