that's not even the most offensive thing about it though. It's like as an entire package it gets everything wrong.

CT - small cast of characters that all get their little sidestories and development.

CC - 60 niggers you do not give a shit about. The devs were actually PROUD of the fact that they just added 'accents' to characters to make it seem like they weren't just using the same dialogue as everyone else.

CT - interesting multiple-character techniques that showed off teamwork.

CC - even though there's way more characters there's way fewer of those moves.

CT - simple yet great battle system.

CC - can't think of anything other than xenosaga 2 that tried and failed to be unique as hard as this did.

so on so forth. The game itself is just a middle finger to CT fans even ignoring the story

Cross must have been some kind of abandoned project they pulled up and rearranged to fit into the CT universe, because it really doesn't fit anything else.

Even the way the monsters or whatever in the game are situated.

Trigger has very little weeb story telling and keeps it really simple.

Cross goes all to Hell with it. These weird dragon gods are supposedly biological machines that all merged together create a one single unified computation organism that rests on top of a massive scale Tyrano Liar that was built in another dimension where the reptiles continued to rule, but was pulled into the main line when two broken time lines merged into a single dimension allowing reptilian advanced fighters to war with advanced human weaponry. Scala is merged apart of Lavos and now it's stronger, but not really. Then the good ending is a song that merges two universes together.

... Fuck it. The soundtrack and art direction are really amazing.

I hate CC but the soundtrack is one of the greatest of all time. Except the battle theme which is one of the worst, and it's what you hear most of the time. I know it's a radical dreamers remix but that doesn't make it ok.

Like someone else mentioned, the art direction and the whole style, especially the 3D graphics and shit that's graphically done on a console that is the PS1 is remarkable, hands down the best graphics and sound on the PS1.
I remember reading an interview with Mitsuda on how they really had to work together, like the whole team, on how to just fit in the music the way they did, considering that they only have 1400MB to work with, and so many tracks to use and apply to the game, not enough space, so they had to make use of the sound processor, the internal one on the PS1.

It's amazing wizardry on their part, and it really is the only game that comes to mind that I can say utilized the hardware at the time to its maximum, and opted in for full 3D other than obviously the backgrounds that were pre-rendered like in every other Square RPG.

SaGa Frontier 2 (personal favorite), did also some crazy stuff with the hardware, just opted in for a clean look, watercolor artstyle.
