What is TES IV:Oblivion.

I swear half the budget was for Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart and they both die anyway.

Voice acting ties into marketing.

Nothing wrong with that

A CEO would push for 50% of the budget to be for marketing and 40% for higher up's bonuses.

Again. Be quiet. This has nothing to do with making games. The criticism does. How can you judge them spending in your opinion too much on VA if you don't know how much they spend?

It's a sonic clone more competent than any of Sega's attempts in the past decade. It was heavily criticized (on /v/ at least) for using amateur voice actors.

I never heard Alan Moore speak publicly, is he a retard or what?
>>
>>320721001
He's mentally ill. Most of it comes to him being a ponce and embracing solipsism in a I'LL DECIDE WHAT'S REAL OR NOT PLEBS magickian sense. Grant Morrison is like that too, Bryan Talbot... basically a whole crop of late seventies / eighties britbong comic book writers weaned on Crowley and whatnot; post-punk crowd I guess had to veer into gothic and worse yet try to explain their occult leanings.

Get Dodgem Logic, issue 3 or 4, not sure... there's an essay titled "Magic running in gutters like lighting" or something, where he tries to sound smart and comes off as infantile and insane.

Implying union backed voice acting is cheap. Voice actors literally blocked from voice acting because the union feels a project is below standards.
>>
>>320721172
I always assumed that occult shit was just an obsession and fascination to him, and at the worst his writings on it (even though I didn't read them) were just some weird writing exercise of exploring his curiosity on the subject. Never did I assume he actually takes that shit seriously
>>
>>320721365
As I've said it seems that particular crowd enjoyed being contrarian for the sake of it and inevitably veered into really simplistic fallacies of reason.

What the fuck is this. I mean in some way I can see his point that most scientists are dismissive that states of consciousness and imagination can theoretically be something else entirely (even though obvious there is no scientific ground that can prove this), but then he goes on a fucking edgy tirade pulled straight out of his ass to try and explain muh magical realms.
Just looks like edgy teenage writing. At least Terence Mckenna tried to at least be a little scientific about states of consciousness and the possibility of there being a higher self, but I guess Alan Moore just ignored his writings altogether. He should stick to fiction, or maybe he just lost his touch altogether.
>>
>>320722207
It gets worse
>>
>>320722207
Have some Bryan Talbot, then. In the afterword of this shitfest some chum of his compares him with Joyce.

I do think that video game writing was always better than those in graphix novels.
>>
>>320723019
Heh, that just sounds like that "free writing" exercise that writers do, with a posterior spellchecking correction. Doubt he was trying to make a point with any of that word salad.
>>
>>320717189
It depends on the genre.
An RPG isn't going to get very far with shit writing, for instance.
>>
>>320723295
That is what character development of Luther Arkwright looks like. It goes on for several pages.

>>320723315
Not true at all, games are visual medium, first and foremost and dependant on gameplay. And no game ever had particularly good writing. No one would play VtmB if the hubs were not well designed.
>>
Voice acting ruined video games.

Prove me wrong. You literally can't.
>>
>>320723597
It didn't ruin it, it fits well in certain type of games, like Yakuza.

I bet Yakuza 6 will be the first game to utilize a celebrity in a proper way.
>>
>>320716235
It's true that we don't know how the development budget is spent, but we are usually given official figures on advertising budgets.

The usual case for AAA titles is 60-70% of the total budget going to advertising.

I withdraw my statement. That guy is probably the type of person that's in love with the smell of his own farts if he put any of that shit to print.
>>
>>320723597
It really depends on the game
I couldn't imagine a game like MGS being without VAs, but some games i.e fallout are better off without voiced characters
>>

Have some more then.

Bad Talent can ruin your experience.

Tell me you think the voice acting in Resident Evil 1 is good. Do it. I dare you. I double dare you motherfucker say the voice acting in Resident Evil 1 is good.
>>
>>320719549
Do you?

If not, be quiet. Shill.
>>
>>320724147
>Corben-like
Hey now Anon, I liked those two panels, and granted I don't know much of his work, but let's not jump the gun here.
>>
>>320724232
Depends. It can inadvertently make the game better, like in Deus Ex or MGS. Does anyone think fucking Hayter is a good voice actor? It's like if Kurt Russel acted out Plissken thinking it's a serious dramatic role.

Resident Evil could do without voice acting.
>>
>>320724375
It reminds me of a cross between Corben and Crumb.
>>
Just judging from those pages it reminds me a lot of Harry Clarke, but not as good.
>>
>>320724816
>Harry Clarke

Thanks, didn't know his name even though I've seen some of his work I think. I would definitely reccommend Luther Arkwright if for nothing else then for artwork on some pages.
>>
>>320716235
Could be the most child like retort I've ever seen.
>>
>>320716013
I can only assume by good amount you mean it would be better spend on more marketing.
>>
Obviously this is /v/ so having a nuanced opinion is impossible but in all honesty some games would be so fucking boring if they didn't have voice acting, and conversely some games would be much better off without it. You could not convince me to play Metal Gear Solid for more than 15 minutes if every line of spoken dialogue was iust a text box. However I would pay money for a mod of Freedom Planet with all the voice acting permanently removed and to have the actors shot

And before a retard says "hurr dburr it's about da GAYMEPLAY" writing and story gives gameplay context and allows the player to become more immersed and invested in the game, and have a better experience. How that writing is delivered is important. If you play games for the simple mechanical aspect of completing a list of challenges go buy a rubix cube you fucking autist.
>>
>>320724276
Brilliant logic. We should just end this discussion now since neither of us can argue the point.
>>
>>320727881
No game would bomb without voice acting. It enhances some games but no game would bomb for the lack of it.
>>
>>320717385
I'm not tying to defend the obscene amount of advertising spending, but marketing budgets and dev budgets are allocated separately.
>>
voice actors are important but I agree that you don't need to pay a fortune for them

something that I think is really wasted money is...well I'll just explain it:

in pretty much all rpg's most npc's have dialogue and you can go talk to them, so when you enter a town, there's a lot of people to go talk to, some of them give you items, some of them don't, depends on the game but regardless, this is the most fucking useless shit in those games

>see some kid you can talk to
>when I grow up I want to be a knight just like Asswipe
>I DON'T GIVE A FUCK YOU LITTLE SHIT, GIVE ME STUFF OR SHUT THAT WHORE MOUTH
