Nah it's not. Only remapping the camera controls to different buttons. I use the 360 PC controller for it.
I don't dislike the targeting but it's sometimes awkward. Moving the square box infront of the characters, it sometimes moves or skips over a character and I have to reposition myself.

You're right the tedious and unnecesarly complicated "remake" system was forced onto Rebirth2 and 3 ruining both games. Also they managed to somehow make Mk2 even more easy and casualized the shit out of Rb3. Also the cool and very well characterized characters are gone in Rb2 and instead we got some obnoxious red haired bitch and a bunch of useless characters.
Ambiance in Rb3 got ruined too. No more comfy towns, no more rage inducing grinding, no more cool adventure with a small cast. Useless characters are all over the place.
Rebirth1 was nice, but fuck them for ruining the whole original trilogy. I'm glad VII-2 has kept the original trilogy philosphy.

in Rebirth 1 I got two characters because the DLC was on sale so I got 2 characters for the price of 1. Went with Plutia (she can heal like Compa but is more durable and Historie, she is OP as fuck)

All of the DLCs, sans the free ones for RB1, are pretty much either "Extra kawaii desu girl" or pay to win.
The three characters for Rebirth 1 are slightly overpowered to gamebreakingly overpowered. You can counterbalance it by putting it on "hard mode" with a plan.
Avoid the DLC for Rebirth 2 like the plague.
The one for Rebirth 3 isn't as bad.

Set the FPS for mouth to about 100fps, reduce latency down to 8ms or so. I am still working on it. Nepgear's eyelashes move way more dramatically than what's normal.
