My mother got us hired as surplus extras for the filming of a television commercial. Filming kids can go wrong so they want to have backup actors/extras in case one batch is fail. It turned out that we weren't needed at all so we basically got paid for sitting in a room all day.
My mother didn't spend the money. She let us decide what we could spend it on. My cousin had an NES and we wanted one so we told her we wanted that. She didn't want to take the three of use out so she went without us and picked up an SNES because it the store people informed her that it was new and better.
