Exploration and combat is improved a lot from the first game but the story and characters took a massive dip in quality. The OST is also very divisive, and the audio mixing in the game is really weird, a lot of the time in cutscenes you can't even hear the characters speaking because the music is so loud.

It improves a bit on combat, but the core of it is the same and out of any Jrpg it feels the most offline MMO-ish, even compared to THE literal offline MMO that is .hack//
It isn't anything special when it comes to overall plot, characters, or music
The best thing about it is the world which has verticality and looks like aestheticaly, but character and creature design is horrible for me, and the shaders/lighting on this game doesn't help it at all.
The world in Dragon's Dogma might be all green and generic, but I've had so many more memorable experiences because everything is more interactive and free-form
Gameplay devolves into a to-do list. Yet another open world game full of filler where almost every mission is you going to X spot on the map.
It was an ok Jrpg and I barely managed to finish, bored out of my mind with the near automatic-shut-off-your-brain combat
It misses on so many little details to the point where the world lost its mystery (other than visual appeal) for me. Nier also had horrible side quests but at least it also had gems like the lighthouse old hag quest - nothing like it in XCX

Does the game get more exciting by chapter 12?
I miss the badass cutscenes from the first Xenoblade, but so far everything is a "watch people stand and talk" simulator.
It has more content storywise and gameplay, but it's so damn dull watching what are basically statues.
