UFC-Que choisir, a French consumer association, has sued Valve over some clauses in their subscriber agreement that they consider illegal or abusive:

>Steam's Subscriber Agreement explicitely forbids users to sell their games, despite the transfer of ownership of digital products/licenses being legal

>Valve declines any responsibility in case they get hacked and users' personal info get stolen

>Valve claims ownership on the rights of any user-created content uploaded on Steam

>It is impossible to get the money on your Steam Wallet back if your account is closed/deleted/banned

>Valve applies Luxembourg's consumer law regardless of the user's country

>You can sell items on Steam and have to fill out tax information and pay tax, except that the money cannot be withdrawn from Steam and only be used in their store while they collect interest.

Why do people support Valve's blatant disregard for consumer rights?

>mfw Valve withdraws from Europe and PC gaming can finally flourish
can't wait
>>

Because they have too much games in their library and they don't want to lose these games.

>>Valve declines any responsibility in case they get hacked and users' personal info get stolen

99.9% of the time when people get hacked, it's just retards downloaded key loggers along with whatever they were pirating. Then they blame companies like Valve.
>>
Reselling digital content is not fucking possible without it being absurd. Digital supply is infinite and digital supply never degrades.
>>
>>320677328
Also, if this case is successful, then prices are gonna skyrocket and sales will be non-existent.
>>
>>320677210

You have no reading comprehension, and it seems you also lack a brain. Please grow one as soon as possible.

They're saying that Valve's ToS says that if Valve gets hacked (like PSN did) and people's account and/or credit card information is stolen, then Valve has no responsibility. They're saying this is illegal. They should be correct but we'll see.

>>320677328

So you're selling nothing then, yes? Pirating is illegal why, exactly, then? I fucking hate the term "digital content" as well, it's a game, a game is a thing, you can sell things you've purchased.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

This is probably the main thing that needs to be re-examined. The government shouldn't be able to request a real money tax on Gaben Fun Bucks, no matter how improbable it is that anyone will make $20,000 on the community market.

So are crate/case keys, giftable games, and cosmetics but we can still trade those.

Gabe is very particular in his words. He says he will never fuck over "the consumer". He will rawdog the anus of anyone who wants to make money using his distribution service though. He's like Robin Hood in that regard. Stealing from the rich to give to the poor and also making it so that shady developers can't take advantage of those consumers either.
>>
>>320677657
Honestly that has less to do with Valve and everything to do with the State. They look for *anything* to tax and will regard the dumbest shit as income. In cases like this where you're making money as credit for Steam, they still don't let you earn too much legally without being taxed ($200) otherwise you're technically laundering under official opinion.
>>

>>Steam's Subscriber Agreement explicitely forbids users to sell their games, despite the transfer of ownership of digital products/licenses being legal

This has always been extremely scummy. A digital download is your property, and as your property, it's inherently transferable. Gaben's cries of "noo don't sell it" cannot override laws.

If somebody has a $5,000 Steam account, it is his right to cash it in, or have his kids inherit it.

>Why do people support Valve's blatant disregard for consumer rights?

Gaben looks like a friendly guy.

Key loggers would be a legitimate excuse, however most tards fall for the bots that add you.

>>320678976
...what. keyloggers would be-what. obviously you made a typo.

>Valve claims ownership on the rights of any user-created content uploaded on Steam
