It's incredibly "slice of life esque" with a lot of heart put into it by the devs. Like in all Yakuza threads, I'd say if you can play from the beginning, however, the first one is absolutey shit for the most part due to the english dub.
2 onward the game reaches legendary status in gameplay,story,OST,atmosphere and setting.
You can start at 3 and just watch the recap videos for the first 2 games, however, the Japanese lingo and a lot of character names will be tough to get ahold of in the beginning.

No problem, when I say "slice of life esque" I mean it in the same way that Persona 3 and 4 are. Both franchises are very very true to their Japanese roots in numerous ways, more so the Yakuza games.
If you can't get Y3 now, you may as well Emulate the first 2. They emulate incredibly well, and the 2nd game has a recap of the 1st game. The 2nd game is arguably the best of the series, with the newest one 5, ranking the same.

Pretty sure a QTE is an event in which an on screen button prompt is presented and failure or repeated failure results in game over. That and you lose all control of the character for the duration of the QTE event.
That being said I actually enjoy QTEs. In game like TLoU or Uncharted I think they're quitefun!
