What, exactly, is a "meme game"?
>>
>>320580856
A meaningless criticism used to discredit any videogame on the basis that it's popular. It can be applied to any videogame.

For references, if it has a lot of "memes" in it then it is "pop-culture reference riddled trash". Which is a legitimate criticism, by the way.
>>
a game lots of people like.

By the dictionary definition of "meme" that is.
>>
>>320581087
God damn I do enjoy playing Borderlands but this makes it really frustrating to play any of the three at a length.
>>
>>320580856
A game that is essentially, a meme, and lacking substance.
Like Undermeme.
>>
A game that is too popular for you to earn any nerd-cred by liking it, therefore making you hate it.
>>
>>320581207
At least the pop-culture references in the first was just action movie references in the skill tree and such.

And possibly Watchmen with that shit at the end.
>>
A game with memes in it?
>>
"I don't like it"
>>

If they would just put a goddamn sensible UI into the other two I think I'd be fine. At this point I don't listen to anything the characters say and I disabled subtitles long ago.

You know you've made a bad UI when your dad who can barely into PC wants the first game's UI back
>>
>Undertale has character that literally talk LIK TIS GUIZ XD
>not a meme game

It has humor in it so by /v/ standards it's pure meme-ery and must freak out at the sight of it.

Because we all know our reposted image reactions are the only cool memes allowed.

An actual "meme" game would be a game so ubiquitous it is immediately recognizable and, possibly, even a major part of culture.

Like Nintendo, or its main IPs. Everyone knows that shit, to the point where some people refer to all games as, "Nintendo" or "Mario". That's a meme.

But /v/'s definition of "meme" is just, "something you like that I don't that insults the purity of my precious board, let's talk about my waifu instead."
>>
>tfw i made that term
That shit actually caught on?
Lel
>>
>>320580856
an actual meme game would be pop trivia quiz or a game with the same kind of writing as "family guy" just pop culture references upon references
>>
a game that you played only because people kept talking about

A game someone doesn't like but cannot form a legitimate reason as to why. They also refuse to admit that they simply don't like it, so they have to try and make it the game's fault that they don't like it.

Anyone who uses the term unironically to describe a game should be ignored, their opinion is worthless.

>meme game
A game that constantly shoves pop culture references and memes down your throat. An important signal for lack of developer's own creativity and originality.

I don't know OP. I loved Undertale, but I don't think there's another game that's been so exploitable for memes in years.

It's a game that has content within it that becomes popular to the point that /v/ hates it, mainly because you can't turn a corner without a girl in blue paint trying to finger a bearded dragon she stapled a lab coat to.

Usually the game is ruined retroactively by its own jokes and status, but some games like borderlands 2 tend to take from a pool of already used up jokes (Arrow to the knee).

>>
Meme Game (n.) : A popular game that has very little substance, that is primary played by let's players.
>>
>>320580856
Games people only like because it's current and trendy. Like Bioshock Infinite or DmC back when they came out
>>
>>320585695
I didn't say that. But given the fact that many memes originate from /v/ or precisely 4chan, then yes, it is a creative and original board.
>>
Calling games memes is itself a meme.
