I don't really believe this. The gameplay looks boring as fuck in every video I have seen. Like, more boring, less varied and even simpler than SKs. I can't imagine it is actually somehow better than it looks.

The gameplay is better than SK in just about every way possible. It may look the same but it isn't. There are numerous ways to actually make real combos rather than just mashing through everything mindlessly. They actually thought about the gameplay systems this time. And even though the game isn't very hard, you do have the option to at least go through it at lvl 1 and increase difficulty for yourself a bit.
I spent tons of time in training mode just chaining combos and actually having fun with it.

i feel like cast is important for games where the main draw is sexy girls, and so far none of the VD girls have caught my eye. Meanwhile with SK several of the girls interested me right away
I'll give VD a try when(if) it comes to the west, but for now SK will remain my favorite

Yeah I felt the same way. I kept complaining that the VD girls looked generic and boring compared to the SK cast. I definitely like their personalities better though. Characters like Momo are really well done while Mana will surprise you.
I like both SK and VD but VD is clearly the better game, especially as a game.

Hearing this makes me kind of happy, I still don't give a fuck about VD but this means we're likely to see these improvements carry over to the next SK. EV felt like SV 1.5, having Takaki go back to experimenting a bit was what I wanted. Especially if it means real combos.

I'm a little miffed at Takaki. Like, I appreciate his enthusiasm and his "I literally couldn't give a fuck" attitude but I think he's going a bit overboard with his love for fanservice. Senran Kagura is just getting more and more lewd and I'm afraid it might eventually hit a tipping point where he goes too far and the game can't be sold or the gameplay suffers.
In today's video gaming scene where everyone is too afraid of SJWs and censorship it's great to see Senran Kagura weather the storm but... I feel like if Senran Kagura falls then it'd be a big blow to the censorship problem.

The gameplay utilizes a lot of stuff that aren't in SK so I doubt any of it will carry over. SK might get an overall or something since VD actually plays well and they now have experience, but they're actually developed by two different devs. Tamsoft didn't make VD.
