I always enjoy Requiem. Early game combat actually involves dodging and tactical item usage and shit. The perk system isn't perfect (simply because its beyond them to properly integrate perk choices into quest design), but it's a vast improvement over vanilla.

I haven't used Perkus Maximus, but it seems pretty solid in its own right.

FYI perkus isn't supported anymore last I heard. The author I think quit modding and when I used it last it was riddled with bugs. I've used ordinator and it seems to be really good considering it just changes the perks and not combat. That way you can then use combat mods. Requiem I've heard good things about but I like ordinator because it's compatible with anything that doesn't touch perks. Requiem would be good but you can't go apeshit on downloading mods unless you know for sure it will be compatible.

It's a huge pain in the ass, yeah, but there are plenty of compatibility patches for most major stuff. Thankfully, so long as your mod doesn't *change* anything, just adds it, it won't break your game. Might fuck with game balance, but who cares? Bathing is fun.

I use a set-up of Ultimate Combat and SPERG, simply because it doesn't conflict with other shit i got.
Turn on hardcore damage in the mcm menu for UC and i'll watch me get torn to bits in any encounter with 2-3 enemies. Really makes you have to think about encounters, especially when you do a no fast travel/barely save often run.

Even cosmetic mods can break Requiem. And I think a lot of patches weren't made compatible with the latest version? I'm not sure.

This is pretty much my only concern. They made patches for it to work with Realistic Needs & Diseases and Frostfall. Anyone know how well these work together?

If you're talking about RND and Frostfall they are pretty much made for each other, I never tried using them with Requiem though

Skyrim was a lot less obnoxious about it though. The Giant was perfectly optional though, and the Companions usually get it to 1/5th health before you even get close enough to teamgank him.

Skyrim's is the dragon outside of whiterun. The giant is more likely to die before you even reach it. In fact, both FO3 and Skyrim's "Big Bad Guys" moments happen relatively later than FO4's at least in those games you get to your first hub town before doing anything extravagant.

For Skyrim ,that's the dragon at the north watchtower. Giants are docile for the most part.

FO4 sorta got it right by making the power armor consume power but then Todd decide they cost 300 each and spawn in every containers.

I've been looking through the mods listed in this thread, and I gotta say Ultimate Combat looks really good. Instead of just messing with stats, it changes the AI of the enemy more. It might actually make me reconsider getting Reqiuem now.

Spears have never been good. I can't even find a decent spear mod for Morrowind because if you go spears there's no variety and the only decent one you get is at the end of the final expansion.

yeah, and I noticed a lot of the models don't have proper vaginas rigged and implemented, also the liquid physics could use some touch-ups. There's also the matter that a lot of models seem to have the same glossy cock that doesn't quite match up with the rest of the character's skin tones/model.
