What would a videogame based on Akagi play like?
Probably like a million other Majong games. Only you can see most of your opponents pieces.
>>320483532
That's Kaiji. Also I have yet to find an actual decent Mahjong game, it's either the weird Windows tile-matching version or it's some buggy cartoon shit that was probably made in Flash. Maybe something like having opportunities to cheat throughout the game, as well as being able to look around and read your opponents' expressions. There are probably poker games that do this since it's more popular in the West than Mahjong.
>>320484803
What are you talking about, that's clearly Akagi.
>>320485205
Am I missing something here?
There's an akagi game for the DS.
>>320485429
Why'd you post Kaiji? We're talking about Akagi.
>>320485429
like looking into a mirror
well a KAIJI game would be unwinnable.
>never get lucky with having dora titles in your hand
>this time it happens
>paired up with a tan'yao and possible ippatsu
>get like a haneman or a higher hand building up early in the round
>about to riichi when drawing the next tile
>some retarded chucklefuck immediately gets a ron on his hand made up from nonsensical open melds
>1000 points
every single fucking time
>>320485812
>wins 3 of the insanely high-staked games during the series
Losing some fingers isn't really a big deal, y'know.

>>320486113
why?other than the anime having shit pacing
>>320486313
Because he wins fucking big at one point and shit gets serious.
>>320486357
We all know he's gonna lose to Kazuya
>>320486050
>wins E-Card
>wins pinzoro
>wins against the motherfucking Bog
And his opponents cheated more than him.
>tfw all the majong clubs around here are chinese
>>320486704
That's not what the RAWs are suggesting. I expect him to win but at the cost of something, otherwise he wouldn't be able to face Hyoudou with the necessary amount of tension.
Also, the stakes in the One Poker game are fucking insane. 400 million per one life.
Watched Kaiji, really enjoyed it. Reading up about Akagi and it seems like it's pretty much a carbon copy but with Mahjong instead of card games and plank walking. Is it actually worth checking out?
how come kaiji never learns or develops as a character?
>>320486841
I thinks it's better than Kaiji. Akagi is a more interesting character and the show is more tightly focused. But that comes with a lot of complicated mahjong talk. But I've never played it and still found it very enjoyable.
>>320486841
Akagi is all mahjong, don't expect much of anything else. But I can say that you don't need any mahjong knowledge to enjoy it.
>>320486841
Akagi is better imo. Good for a rewatch too once you learn the rules.
>>320486841
Akagi was a big stepdown compared to Kaiji IMO. Felt like I was watching a Mary Sue win everything without effort. Don't get why people like it.
>>320487558
This. Admittedly I haven't read the manga. But the anime was pretty dull, because Akagi is already established as a mahjong genius and wins every time.
>that feel when can't watch akagi because don't understand mahjong
damn
>>320487793
>tfw
>>320487793
Its better if you don't understand
>>320483532
Am I the only one who thought the "balance on a beam" part was kinda retarded?
>>320487793
I knew nothing about mahjong, still watched Akagi.
At the end of the series, I started to understand a bit of the fundamentals. Then I read a bit more about it, and played Suikoden 4 mini-game that's basically retard mahjong.
Watched Akagi again after that, enjoyed it even more. The only thing that totally eludes me is how the points work, fuck that shit.
>>320488013
>>320488203
This was also kind of retarded, but more "in tone" with a gambling manga.
Steel beam was kind of like a weird sports thing, with almost no reflexion involved. The game at the beginning of part 4 is ten times worse though
>>320483532
why do people like this character
i read a bit of the mango and this is what i gathered from it
>smug teenager protagonist
>somehow knows how to play some weird ass jap chess better than adults whove played it for their whole life
>everyone just constantly goes "NANI??" because the edgy protag is apparently the only one who has ever thought of playing aggressively
>edgy protag continues to be even edgier by taking ludicrous risks for no reason other than the fact that he's the protag and he knows he will win anyway
>forces everyone else to take risks as well because he's such a pshh that he just can't stand those who are weak........ pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
>wins every time because he's a mary sue
>never loses his smug look because he's a mary sue
>everyone is constantly in awe of him because he's a mary sue
>is a teenager because he's a mary sue
>is an asshole also but i guess that makes him good because he's not a "moralfag"
explain to me how this fucking pile of dog dick is a good character
>>320488698
oops i actually meant this guy >>320485429
>>320483532
But anon, that's Zero.
>>320488698
Akagi is an awful character, it's just entertaining to see him win. These character types are used in gambling manga because since it's hard to tell what they're thinking it keeps the audience wondering how they'll get out of each situation, but they run the risk of just being boring as fuck because they're too invincible.
Tokuchi Toua in One Outs, another gambling series, is basically the same, but I kind of like him better because the odds feel even more stacked, he's a total dick in an amusing way, and his supporting characters are better.
Kaiji is the best gambling manga protagonist because he's legitimately the underdog in almost every game, and an actually relatable/likable character with proper personality flaws and vices. You really want him to win, and he actually loses in a meaningful way on multiple occasions, which makes it much more suspenseful and cathartic when he does win.

Never trust a fat fuck.
>>320488339
The beam game played into the series theme of temptation, distrust, and testing the limit of what people would do for money. The actual "game" was the test of whether or not they would push off the person in front of them, not whether they could keep their balance.
Admittedly as a gamble it was kind of unfitting and dull, it would probably have been better if it was a little bit shorter (even though it was already very short). But I think it's cool that Fukumoto tries games that aren't just straight-up gambles between people, because it gives the series more variety. And if he didn't do that we would never have gotten the Bog, which was fucking amazing somehow despite being a ridiculously long arc about a goddamned pachinko machine.
>>320489350
this guy is the real human garbage
There is an Akagi game for DS.
There's also a Kaiji game for PS1.
