Okay, since the console war seems to be a hot topic recently, here's an argument that came to my mind on why PC gaming will prevail. Virtual reality. Of course, it won't be cheap, but if you're poor you're probably a consolefag anyway. Once we get reasonably sized and priced multi-directional treadmills designed to work with VR kits, high-quality realistic rendering will matter more than ever for it to be truly immersive. Who knows, maybe even some sort of interactive environment. Thoughts? I'm talking like 10-20 years from now.

Vr is a gimmick
vr will never be truly "immersive" because you can never touch your surroundings
its an overhyped gimmick

>those textures
>save PC gaming
>implying so hard
PC gaming is steadily growing, it's doing so sustainably as well. Unitaskers like consoles are dying off, and while computing in general is moving to more mobile devices, there is still a large need for powerful computers.
PC gaming is good for expansion during the next decade or two.

It will be for racing/flight sim enthusiasts only
>>320409176
Are you implying that PC gaming needs to be saved because it is in bad state? I thought PC is the biggest platform.

It's not really that big of an issue. It could be done even now, to a limited extent (you could only feel the obstacle being there, not imitate the material it's made of)
Also, on second thought, moving in a hanging exoskeleton would be a better idea than the multi-directional treadmill.

Arent PS4 and XO selling better than previous generation?

Here, I found the video (my concept of how simulating the obstacles could work with today's technology)

Shhh...don't ruin his delusion or his whole reality will collapse around him

Yea I wonder how adaptable some game types would be to VR. Imagine trying to play a platformer.
Seems by design VR is restricted to games where in game you're already sitting in a chair.
You are just hatimg on tech now. They could incorporate a way to mimic heat and cold and other things so that it seems more immersive why do impose these limitations on computers just because of what we have now
>>320409706
you're not going to be feeling the vr "presence" they keep trying to shill when you're walking right through a wall or colliding with something that you can't feel in real life

or ragdoll physics possesing your body

See >>320409706 (the hanging exoskeleton would be to track motion/take over control of the player's body, which would also apply to having obstacles you cannot move through (the exoskeleton is blocking your moves) )
Also i know exoskeleton sounds edgy, but i assure you its the right term here. I dont mean soldier/industrial-grade exoskeleton muscle support, i mean a motion-tracking exoskeleton.

best VR titles will be ported to PS4/Morpheus anyway
treadmills in the best case will be as widespread as racing wheel controllers

This is a really cool idea actually.

Literally what I look like.

does anyone know if this method is picked up by some company already? I genuinely think its a good idea

Thanks man, It's my ownnegrotexture. Look how handsome he is when assembled.
>implying PC gaming needs saving
Don't know where you've been but PC gaming has been growing since 2010
PC gaming was killed by a variety of things
1. falling popularity of stationary PCs among normies in favor of laptops
2. falling popularity of Windows PCs among normies in favor of Macs
3. successful efforts to bring 7th gen of consoles to normies
4. console audience reached critical mass and proved to be more profitable than PC market, becoming the priority
PCs at this point can be only saved by interactive porn games that will never happen on PSVR and they surely could attract lot of normies back to PC thus making it priority market again
VR really isn't that great anyway. I've you've ever used a Vive or PSVR, you'd know it's not what they're hyping it up to be. I have. The comfort is lacking. The FOV is too small. The magnified pixels are annoying. The cable distracts you. No real haptic feedback. Walking into the bounds of your tracking space breaks immersion. The controllers have shit ergonomics and don't feel like you actually have your hands in VR. The rest of your body isn't tracked so you don't feel like you're a part of the world.
It's a cool concept and I could see a lot of people buying into it for what it is, but it is nowhere near the VR you really want.
