Are gaming laptops any good, /v/?

No. Anything else?
>>
Not really, you're better of getting a good desktop and a budget to mid-range laptop for the same price of a gaming laptop.

Not bad if you absolutely must game on the go, but never as good as a desktop. With that said I bought an Asus gaming laptop 5 years ago before moving to a new continent and it hung in there until about 6 months ago. If you really need one for whatever reason do a lot of research and get one with a good value. Asus has excellent international customer service and a 3 year warranty, or at least they used to
>>
Nope, you're better off with a desktop and a cheap laptop.

Depends on your needs, preferences, and model.
If you need to have high mobility, but don't want to sacrifice too much of the desktop's processing power, then they are obviously great. Nowadays, you don't even need to shell over 1000 bucks to get a decent gaming laptop machine.

If you don't quite require 1080p/60fps/Ultra settings in every game, then you can get some very capable "non-gaming" laptops for half the price of the designated gayming laptops.

For smooth gaming, you want a laptop with strong dedicated GPU (Nvidia or AMD) with its own vRAM. The modern integrated GPUs are starting to be breddy gud for what they are though.
A decent multicore CPU (preferably > 2Ghz) and over 4GB RAM also help quite a bit.

Look up the Asus' G-series, Lenovo's Y-series, or MSI's laptops. All of them offer great price:performance ratio. Avoid the Alienware-crap, they're overpriced shit running with the brand.
You can try checking out Ebay or something for used / refurbished machines as well, and save yourself a couple hundred

I personally have a custom-built PC and an older Asus gaming laptop that I bought used few years ago. The latter's been very handy during my university studies and my long travels, which have often included some LAN gaming too.

They are more expensive than for an equivalent desktop.

I dropped $2,200 on my MSI GT70 Barebones. Running wit the GTX 780m. Even with it plugged in, there are games that will drain it faster than it can charge. Shadows of Mordor is the worst.

Otherwise, I've had no issues being able to play anything at mid to high settings.

In the end, desktops are the way to go. I only went with a laptop because I was bouncing from place to place, having faced an eviction at the time.

Yeah, I got a Toshiba.

Good for porn, too.

Oh and it only cost like $500. Brand new too. It was so cheap because it was a straight-out-of-factory deal.

As someone who has that laptop let me tell you that no they aren't unless you really can't use a desktop for whatever reason.

Gaming laptops have advanced a shitload in the past 5 years from a complete fucking joke to something actually usable but for the same money you will get a better desktop that will also last you longer.

But if you really really want a freaking gaming laptop get one from Clevo. They are literally the best gaming laptops and are cheaper than most of the competition. Also get something that has at least an gtx 965m in it.
>>
Gaming laptops get a lot of bad rap but is just fun gaming on the go, granted that you find a place to power if you play intensive games. Msi laptops are great, I had mine gs60 ghost 003 for 1500 I got it exactly a year ago, and it's still a fantastic laptop. If you're comfortable, get the basic one and upgrade the ram and hd yourself.
>>
i have this gaming laptop, can play battlefield on ultra with 50-60 fps consistently so its good for me.
>>
Mostly just good as a supplemental system.

I have one I use for work.
I'd never exclusively play on it though.

Holy shit, you can run 1942 that smoothly?
>>
Get a Sager or don't bother.
>>
>>320411683
you know it, 1969 runs pretty good too
>>
Only if you have the money. If money is tight, then it isn't worth it.

I'm on a $2700 ASUS ROG G751.

I can run anything and its only 10 lbs. I don't even have a desktop.
>>
I have an MSI Gaming laptop and i can pretty much run everything at high/max setting in 1080p with good fps, even things like GTA 5 or Dying light etc so if you have the money then go for it

I have an MSI GE70 0ND

It's definitely not as good or cheap as a desktop, but the versatility in having a laptop is decent.
>>
You're going to be paying a premium for something that will become outdated far more quickly than a desktop with little or no ability to upgrade. It's a fine option if you don't mind dropping two grand every time a desktop would just shift out a component.
