Crystal Dynamic's TR Anniversary was a step on the right direction. IMHO.
It lost a lot of the eerie atmosphere, however the mechanics were incredibly good and the action/platforming were top notch.

It is selling like shit, but true exclusives are rarely a mistake if the terms of the contract are good enough. Better margins can mean vastly more money from the same sales, budget might be partially or completely absorbed (the latter as the case of W101 and Bayo 2) etc.
The big blunder here is releasing it alongside way too much competition. Tomb Raider would have benefitted heavily from a September/October release where it did not need to compete with Fallout 4 (among other titles).

The classic Tomb Raider games are pretty unplayable now but back then they were incredible at creating suspense through atmosphere and music, even on a PS1. The way the music would suddenly cut in as a giant boulder would come hurling towards you or a T-Rex would come stomping out of nowhere; shit was cash.
They felt alot more like adventures than the new series. Travelling across the world to explore and discover historic dungeons and catacombs. Figuring your way around traps and puzzles with the occasional animal to fight. The new ones just feel like you're trying hard to not get lara killed every five minutes. She became a china vase.

I don't quite understand. It seems like he didn't really quit, he was probably forced to "resign" because he's taking the fall for the game being a timed exclusive and selling like shit, but was he really the one who made that decision? I would have thought that was more of a publisher stunt to go and make a deal of the game being a timed exclusive, not the lead developer. Then again, i reread it and it says he was also part of the publisher's output, so i guess he could have done it, but it still seems like that would have been multiple people trying to push that forward, not one guy.
