How does /v/ justify piracy?
>>
>>320358148
I'm not paying $90 including tax for a new game and I don't give a fucking rats ass how the dollar is doing. The companies profit margins aren't my fucking problem.
>>
Let's do some bingo.
>I pirate the game first, then I see If I want to pay it.
>I'm not a cancerous buycuck!
Anything I need to add?
>>
If I'm unable to buy a brand new copy of a game through means that ensure the original developers get paid for the sale, then it's okay to pirate.
>>
>>320358148
I'm used to be against it, but them them ps4 got hacked and I'm hyped for all the free games.
>>
I don't

I just don't care whether or not it's justified
Suck my dick, I ain't paying for shit

It's a natural mechanism of defense OP.

I have no justification. I just pirate because I can. Despite that, my steam library still has a decent amount of games.
>>
Because the big gaming companies are greedy and I don't want to pay them when I can get their shit for free.
>>
>>320358148
Because it's easy and I can.
>>
>>320358148
I buy more games than non-pirates anyways.
I can do it.
>>
If piracy wasn't a thing I wouldn't just buy the game.
>>
>>320358148
I definitely wouldn't have bought the game anyway.
...if it was mediocre, I would've bought it used.
In either case, the devs/publishers wouldn't see any money.

Not going to pay for something I'm gonna play for 15 minutes and then delete forever.

I can't remember the last time I spent more than 30 minutes with a single game. Send help.

1. sometimes I want to play a game
2. sometimes I don't want to pay for that game
3. so sometimes I pirate it and play it
4. some people think that's wrong, but I just don't really care one way or another

there we go, that's the entire thought process. I don't need to justify it to myself or anyone else because I don't care to.

I don't always pirate, but when I do, I don't give a shit.
>>
Because I want to obtain something for the lowest price possible. This is why I buy games on sale, and pirate them if they're cheapest on a torrent site.
>>
>>320358148
As a patent attorney, no.
As a consumer, if I'm not going to buy the game anyway, there's no actual harm done, so yes.
>>
>>320358148
There's no need to justify anything. Market research shows that "piracy" actually enhances sales in the entertainment industry.

The very same research shows that publishers would actually make bigger net profits if they sold their games at a lower price point.

What is there to justify? I just refuse to pay for games
>>
>>320358148

I don't, I'm an asshole for doing it.
>>
>>320358148
I want new shit and don't want to pay for it, isn't that the only justification I need?

I can't pirate new console games and that shit is overpriced as hell, so pirating all the Pc stuff I can and emulating older console stuff balances out the jewiness of current console games.
>>
>>320359628
>if they sold their games at a lower price point
All I can read here is "another shoah".

By not caring.
>>

I pirate and play pc version and buy console version instead.

Find a game that's a notorious time sink and just roll with it. There's plenty of F2P shit out there that does this pretty well with no financial commitment.
>>
>>320358148
developers who lie, cheat and false advertise deserve no money from me for their shit game

Why bother justifying it?

It's wrong, I do it anyway. You do it too.

ps4 was jailbroken last week dude.
>>
>>320359750
What exactly are you implying?
>>
>>320359706

To elaborate, it is wrong. You're not sticking it to the man or anything noble. You're ultimately taking the hard work of many many people for notion. I don't give a fuck about the publisher's profits, even though I should because I dictates whether or not the games I enjoy get sequels.

The PSP sold millions of hardware because of piracy. You could say the PSP was successful because of it.
>>
>>320360225
There are a surprising number of demos on Steam. It's just not obvious that they're there a lot of the time.
>>
Just about every pre-2007 title I pirated has not a single bit of the staff that made the game left.

In the case of Konami, just about every shred of talent that isn't arcade or pachinko related is dead.
>>
>>320359997
My point was that everybody would be better off if the publishers and retailers were more consumer friendly. For example only a handful of them even have a return policy at all. And even they're a very recent development.

>>
>>320358148

I bought every game that I liked after pirating it. Which is not many but still...
>>
>>320358148
I only pirate when it's easier.

Netflix sucks in my country, so I pirate TV shows.

Anime is inaccessible outside of Japan, or would force me to wait for weeks/years to get an official release, so I pirate.

I used to pirate games, but then Steam got good, and I also have a few Playstation consoles, so I buy games for them.

Same goes for music. Spotify is pretty decent, so I stopped pirating music. I still pirate weeb music though, because it's not accessible.

I strongly believe that accessibility reduces piracy more than lawsuits.

Yes, reasonably priced quality services that provide content will beat piracy. The problem is publishers don't know how to monetise that properly yet, so they aren't doing shit.

The games I pirate are no longer actively beong produced. At worst I'm taking a sale away from gamestop or something. If I like it and find it somewhere I'll more than likely buy ot anyways
>>
It's a constant escalation, not just from the pirates, but from the rights holders as well.

The copyright trolls have successfully infested our tax system and they are now welfare leeches.
They also encourage our governments to take freedoms away from our internet access, more surveillance.

So if you think it's only the pirates who are bad, you're delusional.
>>
>>320360739
I'm saying that the industry is currently too big to sink, and the suits up top aren't convinced of "consumer friendly" practices being effective for making money. In fact, most of them would see the lowering of prices as a sign of defeat or hard times (reinforced by the consumers; just look at the public/press reaction to console price drops).

To them, it IS another shoah - something of an entirely fictional boogeyman that nonetheless drives sleep from their eyes each night.

>>
Old games that don't have a reasonable avenue of purchase, are now freeware or have been long abandoned are fine to pirate.

I don't pirate 'new' games, but I don't really care either way.

Pirating games that don't have a reasonable demo available is fine too, so long as you only play for a 'reasonable' amount of time, and delete it after. Playing for 10 hours and then saying 'I don't like this game' isn't okay. Playing for about an hour however is.
>>

What is there to justify? a niggah wants to share a copy of his game through internet with his friend so he puts a link to a digital disc so they can download it and creates a program that allows them to play it without keys or physical disc.

It's just this little thing that any other person that may see the link is able to download it too, but that's just a detail.

I pirate games I wouldn't have paid for and in most cases, wind up getting rid of or playing just once because their trash.
Shit like FNaF, Undertale and that kind of stuff.
The only relatively new game I pirated that I would have paid for is Sonic Generations.

When it comes to old games I honestly see nothing wrong with piracy. They had their time, they made most of their profit and that's it. In most cases the game would only be obtainable by buying it online so I'm not taking any potential profit.

If they game is available via an online store I'm not paying companies for an official emulator that's outclassed by fanmade ones with more options.
