What are some good gaming laptops for around 1000$? I'm getting my younger brother a christmas present and I know he wants one.
>>
>>320339498
1000 wont take you far with Gaming Laptops unless there's a mega sale going on. If he doesn't actually care about mobility for his computer I recommend a desktop or building one yourself.

thanks. It doesn't have to be a beast of a rig, I think he'd be fine with something that has like 8GB of RAM, an i5 etc etc. So it sounds like it might be best to just stick with brands like Asus and the like?
>>
>>320339498
Samsung np550p5c. Upgrade the hard drive to an internal SSD and upgrade to 8gb RAM if you need to and you'll be fine for most stuff.
Bought mine for $1000 AUD in 2012 and I'm still using it.

Dell Inspiron 15 7559 for less than $1,000
Lenovo Y700 for slightly over $1,000

both have quad core i7, 8GB ram, and dedicated GPU

Fuck off kiddo. Take that $1000, research parts for building a decent PC for that budget and build one.

Be on the lookout for sales for Lenovo's gaming laptops. I've seen the ~1200 ones dip to 8-900 before

is temporarily out of stock (wait for amazon itself to get stock back and not a reseller), usually goes for 800 and is better than >>320340280

How casual is your little brother? KEK
>>
>>320340532
>>320340705
I don't know about OP's brother but I prefer laptops because I can use them for both casual use and gaming while comfy on the couch instead of hunched over a computer desk, for how long I usually use it at a time.

I would build a desktop if it weren't for mobility and or comfyness.

enjoy your sterility, you want mobility use your phone or a vita.

the 860m runs at 75c to produce poor results, enjoy your 20fps in fallout 4 with your mobile gpu.

May as well just throw away $1.30 every day because in 2 years any gaming laptop shits itself.
>>
>>320340158
Yeah most likely, I enjoy my Alienware but I know this damn thing is overpriced to hell and back, all gaming laptops are. Check out Maingear, maybe they will have better price/performance than most mainstream manufacturers.
>>
>>320341250
it comes with a 960m, anon, it will be fine
>>
>>320341791
oh-ho!

26fps well excuse me, I'll just let you throw away all your money are pure liquid shit.

We're trying to help you out here anon, don't fucking buy this garbage that already doesn't fucking work out of the box.

i want a laptop, not a desktop, and i don't want to spend more than $1,000

i'm so fucking sorry that i don't have a desk to sit in front of for hours every day for the ultimate gaymin experience

what do you suggest?
>>
>>320339498
>gaming laptop
What a joke
>>
>>320339498
None.
Underpowered, overpriced, shitty quality. All of them.
>>
>>320342167
I suggest you steal some milk crates and make a desk, cuz you're basically shit out of luck if you want some mainstream gaming.

your only other options are, get a tablet, or get a ps4 and a vita and use remote play religiously

So spend 950 bux on a machine and get a desk for 50 bux at Ikea ?

$1000 burgerbux?

In aus it's basically
<1500 = internet and word only.

>3000 = High 4k and 1 month until meltdown.

For 1000 none, for 4000$ yes.

I got my Alienware 18 like 2-3 years ago and still works perfectly.

I needed a laptop since I travel a lot, and the Alienware 18 is Ffucking great, good graphics and no overheating issues.

just got an asus laptop with gtx 960m, i7 for $800. pretty good for lan parties. surprise it runs current games in decent fps
>>
>>320341607
Alienware prices for laptops are actually pretty fair, almost equal to others with similar components i've found.

It's their pc's that are hugely overpriced.

Do you even read the words in your browser?
>>
>>320339498

Anything you can find with a GTX 970m in it.

960m can go suck a dick and 980m costs too much.

970m has 7970/GTX 770 level performance and can handle most anything at 1080p.
>>
>>320339498
Not getting a gaming laptop is not a meme

You should never under any circumstances get a gaming laptop.

If you're in a situtation where you dont have place for a gaming rig, then just get a thinkpad or something and wait untill you have more space untill you get a desktop PC:

DONT BUY GAMING LAPTOP YOU UNDERAGE FAGT

>>
>>320346049
seconding this

If your willing to unlock the bios to OC it its really good
>>
>>320346419
It wasn't a meme, it is now.

Anything release in the past 3 years will work adequately as a gaming device until the next generation of consoles, since everything is a port now.

So buy one released this year and you'll be fine for the next half decade.

Modern gaymen laptops are getting pretty fucking fast now.

The 960m's on par with the 7870 and the 970m's as fast as a 7970. Both of which are more than enough for most anything at 1080p.

970's a way better value though, especially since laptops that use it are dropping under $1000 more often these days.

Hell, the expensive as fuck ones have actual desktop 980s and desktop i7s in them now.

Most are still horridly overpriced, but the actual hardware in them is reaching parity with higher end desktops these days.
