What is the most bullshit puzzle in any game?
>>
>>320307893
From recent memory, at least.
>>

That's not even the most bullshit puzzle in that game, barring Hell Temple and its unlock sequence.

No puzzle will ever outbullshit this one.

The Silent Hill Shakespeare puzzle is child's play compared to this.
>>
>>320308582
Yeah, it was DOCTORKIRK.

There was no key or anything as far as I know, and this was the only one of these I had any trouble with.

I don't get it.
>>
>>320307893
That's not even the worst thing in La Mulana, taking the knee and the entirety of Gate of Birth will make you want to kill yourself.

I'd have mentioned Hell Temple like that other anon did but unlocking it in the first place is sort of meta, since it's so bullshit you literally CANNOT do it without an online guide.

It's almost like a joke/callback to the times of when you used to bullshit around with friends and tell them how to "unlock Mewtwo" by doing inane shit, except this time it actually works.
>>

Yeah, I overreacted. It's actually pretty easy once you use your brain and realize each letter is two numbers. Then you just disregard G and F like the key tells you to.

I remember having trouble with one of the earlier ones when I played through Dino Crisis a while back, sue me.

It's King's Quest 1.

There's this gnome who asks you to guess his name. You only get 3 guesses. Now considering the theme of the game and his surroundings you might be able to guess it's Rumpelstiltskin.

But that's not the answer. You have to spell it backwards. You might think that's easy, it's Nikstlitslepmur. But no, that's too easy. You have to reverse the entire alphabet. A = Z, B = Y etc. So it becomes Ifnkovhgroghprm. The chances of getting this correct on 3 tries is next to impossible. And what hints do you get for this? At one point in the game, in a part you might not have even gotten to yet, there's a note that says 'Sometimes it's better to think backwards' or something similar.

Now the bullshit doesn't end there. Let's say you're a genius who managed to figure this all out in 3 tries. His name is misspelled. The name isn't RumPELstiltskin, it's RumPLEstiltskin. So even if you managed to figure out this bullshit puzzle you're still fucked.

I dare anyone to name a harder puzzle than this. It's impossible. It doesn't exist.

The number of fingers he shows is the answer to the next one he asks you about. Say he shows three fingers and says "if this is five, what's this" and shows two fingers. The answer is three. Then the next one will be two. So on.

I actually like the water treatment puzzle in RE3 because it's the only one that requires any sort of (minimal, still) thinking. Anything else in these older RE games is piss fucking easy.

Anyways, it was the garlic puzzle. This guy had a shop and the garlics were stinking up everything, but he had to cut one of three ropes (???) to stop the smell. NONE of them actually LEAD to the garlic, so you have to press with the stylus the little nose-blockers or whatever they're called to make him not smell anything. Obviously breathing with his mouth and making his customers die from the odor is much better than hard work, y'know.

You can get decently far without a guide, but certain areas are just not reasonably possible without one. I made it as far as Eden without help if I recall.

Only thing you really want to make sure you do early on is find the grail.
>>
>>320313175
Depends on where exactly you are, but if you just started I'd recommend sticking to it and not looking up the guide.

I'll tell you that unless you're in the Gate of Illusion or Chamber of Birth and you're having trouble, it's probably just you overthinking certain things or not reading tablets. There's only one really bullshit thing in the entire game, not counting Hell Temple.

Whip shit often if you don't see that blue eye anywhere on the screen, sometimes walls will crumble and reveal new stuff.

I only say it because it's honestly possible to beat it without a guide, at the cost of your patience.

Yeah, jumping is a bit of a pain, but you should try to get a hang of it especially once you hit the bosses so you don't accidentally jump into a bed of spikes.

>jump higher
>walljump
You get both eventually, though the latter isn't as good as it sounds.

death was fine, old adventure games had a fetish for giving you an opportunity to use up an item early on in the game, and then five hours later making it so that item is crucial to your progression.

>hungry beggar on street, holding a key
>can give him a pie or slice of cheese
>hours later
>you needed the cheese to attract a mouse so it would attract a cat so it would go through a hole and leave a bit of fur on the tape you placed there earlier so you can use that as a mustache to mimic a guy who doesn't have a mustache

When Ruby and Sapphire came out I was 7. Nobody I knew had the internet. Shit like this was super hype and me and my friends used to gather round at lunchtime trying to decode it.

When one of us showed up at school the next week with a Regice it was a real "my dad works at nintendo moment". That's why it was cool. These days with the internet puzzles like that are obtuse, back then they were great.
>>
>>320314034
>I'm hoping that there will be an item that makes my jump higher or allows me to wall jump, or else I really haven't got the hang of the game's platforming
There's one that allows you to stick to walls and one that makes you double-jump, both are later on. It's easy to get used to the controls if you remember that you can control Lemeza in mid-air if you jump from a standing position, not while running.

>Lost a bit of my will when I spent a few minutes completing this slow sliding block puzzle to open the snake's sanctuary and it was empty.
It's not empty, you just have to return there later with a certain item.

Buy the thing that allows you to translate the stone tablets ASAP, and then get to exploring. Also, read the manual and watch this shit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtAFGes3Xdo

>You could only possibly know that was a feasible way of solving the puzzle unless you watched Todd Howard solve the puzzle for you in a preview video at Quakecon.

Nah, I grew up playing old resident evil games. I would inspect and rotate every item in other games if I was stuck on some puzzle. I had skyrim on ps3 first, and it's more straightforward about how to rotate and item.

For future reference, your post reminds me of a " how were you supposed to know to jump in the paintings?" mario64-tier bait

also Every resident evil puzzle was really fun, unless it involved having to put away weapons for item pack space etc.
>>
>>320314497

>>
>>320315024
Everything seems less brutal when you arent figuring it out yourself or having to replay the same portion for hours because you keep getting oneshotted. Also, didnt the game register how many keypresses you made and then deleted your savefile if you made too many?
>>
>>320315034
Yeah, I hope they won't fuck up the music for the sequel.

Although so far they've been nailing pretty much everything about it, picture very closely related.
>>
>>320315572
Well, Inspect was a new feature that most people didn't know about until that specific video.
Mario 64 at least had Toad say to go into the paintings, and then signs that also said to go into the paintings.
Like, it'd be more feasible for people who are already familiar with the game to drop the claw from their inventory, use the grab button, then manually spin it to see that. Except it's a quest item, so it can't be dropped.

They're actually good games.

Yeah, but it was a blatant parody of King's Quest games. It was intentionally obtuse.

Finding the carpenters when I was 12yrs old. I never found one of them and was stuck on this for about 4 months or so.

Then one day I went to visit my cousins and they told me the last carpenter is in the fortress, not somewhere hidden. Then he casually said " and Sheik is Zelda in disguise" to me and spoiled it. I didn't believe him at the time cause it seemed like a 'that kid' lie. I was so pissed, but it's my fault for being retarded.

Fuck them though they pronounced it "jerudos"

King's quest games in general were bullshit. There were so many different ways you could render the game unwinnable without even realizing it until you get stuck at a future puzzle, and even then it may not be immediately obvious what you should have done to avoid it.

The stone combo for the last door into Atlantis was so poorly-hinted that you were probably fucked as a kid if you didn't have the hint book version, and since I rented it from the library, that was me. The trick is that the door only opens "to contrary minds", which actually means "use the normal combo you used back in Crete, but do a 180 on the stones". I spent hours throwing random combos at it until I brute-forced that fucking door open

The h2g2 Infocom adventure game has some pretty brutal puzzles.

>>320320718
I will finish that eventually. Maybe.
>>
>>320320512
Holy shit.

I had heard it was shit, but that is great. It's like they got all of the shitty adventure tropes from the 90's, stuck them all into a game, and then made it slightly easier when the publisher realized that it wouldn't sell well if the puzzles were nigh-impossible.

The arrow puzzle in Lufia 2.

There's a part where you have to change all of the tiles in an arrow shape to another shade. You do this by placing bombs on the tiles that have to be changed, as the tiles around it forbid you from using your weapons.

Once you've got it, it's pretty easy, but it's annoying to figure out, especially when you're an impatient fuck like me

Came here to post this.

Fucking point-and-click games. Aside from the obvious "buy the strategy guides" scheme, I think they just designed bullshit puzzles to either artificially extend the gameplay time or try and one-up each other in a puzzle pissing contest.

The problem with this puzzle in particular
Is that there is a certain spot you have to stand on and then use the whip to break the floor underneath you. That wouldn't be as much of a bullshit puzzle if there weren't multiple areas that had two paths to choose from.
